Howard-Ludowici   Joy Ann Sullivan Screven—Joy Ann Sullivan, 68, died Aug. 13, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Bruns-wick. She was a native and lifelong resident of Wayne County and was a retired CNA from Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The Jesup City Council interviewed the four top applicants for the city manager position on Tuesday in closed sessions lasting most of the day, but no action was taken following that process.

Firing of former Police Chief Lane is official

Jesup Police Chief Mike Lane has been officially fired as of today (Thursday), according to the city of Jesup. The city announced on its website (jesupga.gov) that the termination process as outlined in the city’s employee handbook has been completed for the firing of the former chief.

James W. Stephens Jr. Jesup—James W. Stephens Jr., 91, of Baxley and Jesup died May 29, 2020. The Wayne County native, living in Appling County the past 28 years, was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He retired from Rayonier after 25 years of service.

Wayne County has had its first confirmed case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. In its second daily update for April 4, the Georgia Department of Public Health posted one confirmed case of a Wayne County resident at 6:27 p.m.
