David M. Harper

Jesup—David M. “Grand Dude” Harper, 71, of Jesup died Oct. 4, 2022, at his residence.

The Wayne County native was a retired fraud investigator for the Georgia Department of Labor. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and an avid “Words with Friends’ player.

The talented musician knew all the lyrics to the Beatles’ songs and was an exceptional grandfather.

His parents, Ernest Harper and Adine Jones Harper, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Carol Cooper Harper of Jesup; three sons, Adam (Sarah) Harper of Savannah, Jake (Suzanne) Hallman of Statesboro and Ben (Suzanne) Hallman of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; a sister, Connie (Jimmy) Johnson of Flagler Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren, Grace, Caroline, Rhett and Dailey Harper and Lucy, Lily, Jude and Rex Hallman; and several nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be held by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ARF (Animal Refuge Foundation), P.O. Box 432, Jesup, GA 31598.

Tina Thornton Riendeau

Screven—Tina Thornton Riendeau, 52, of Screven died Oct. 7, 2022.

The Pierce County native had lived in Wayne County most of her adult life and was a member of Liberty Lighthouse Baptist Church. Screven Elementary School was fortunate to have this kindhearted and humble servant first in the lunchroom and then as head custodian, her family said.

She had a heart of gold, and she loved to cook and keep her grandchildren, the family said.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse James Thornton; and her brother, Craig Thornton.

Survivors include her husband, Chris Riendeau of Screven; a daughter, Ashlee (Michael) Washburn; two sons, Christopher Riendeau and Dylan (Madison) Riendeau; her mother, Diane (Lamar) Roberson; two brothers, Scottie and Casey Thornton; and five grandchildren, Mackaylee, Came-ron, Hunter, Ivory and Daxton.

Funeral services were held Oct. 10 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Mullis officiating. Interment followed in the Riendeau Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her family and friends.

Thomas Joe Danels

Hinesville—Thomas Joe Danels, 81, of Hinesville died Oct. 11, 2022.

The Missouri native had lived in Hinesville the past 30 years and was a member of Grace Assembly Church of God in Jesup.

He was a 20-year retired U.S. Army veteran and member of the VFW in Hinesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy Crosby Danels; a daughter, Sharon Bearden; a son, Curtis Strickland; grandsons, Michael and Jimmy; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Brown.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Gonzalez of Ohio and Janet Frederic of Alabama; a son-in-law, Kent Bearden of Hinesville; a sister-in-law, Joann (George Roberson) Dukes; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday (Oct. 14) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Pastor Dale Bange officiating. Interment will follow in the New Home Cemetery in Patterson with full military honors. Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Nona Faye Cobbs

Jesup—Nona Faye Cobbs, 64, of Jesup died Oct. 6, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1957 in Wayne County to the late Robert F. and Pearlie Lee Mayes-Cobbs.

She was educated in the public school system of Wayne County. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of Bishop Abraham Wilkins at Little Bethel Holiness Church in Screven. She later became a member of Jesup New Life Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Fritz L. Cobbs.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Robert and Pearlie Cobbs; her brothers, Bishop Fritz Cobbs and Pastor Sherman Cobbs; and a sister, Cassandra Cobbs.

Her personality was contagious. She had a beautiful smile, and the love that she had for her family and friends was the love of God. She will be sorely missed by everyone.

Survivors include her loving and devoted children, Stephanie S. Cobbs of Kingsland,  Billy T. Guyton of Jesup and Kenyada M. (Tavoris) Wilkins of Jesup; the father of her three children, Billy Guyton of Tampa, Florida; her grandson that she raised as her own, TyQuaveon Nelson; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Vera Wallace, David Cobbs, Pearlie Digsby, Annette Cobbs, Allison (Leonard) Simmons; her devoted sister-in-love, Pastor Bertha Cobbs; her godchildren, Tamara (Bennie) Green, Kierra Tarber, Kristie Vail; special friends, Patricia Vail, Pastor David Wilkins, Joann Canidate, Rita M. Campbell and Larry Doomes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Royal Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at Jesup New Life Ministries. Interment will be in Screven Cemetery.

Thomas B. Wingate Jr.

Ludowici—Thomas B. Wingate Jr., 94, died Oct. 6, 2022.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Long County. After working 12 years for ACL Railroad, he began his 30-plus year career with ITT Rayonier, retiring as a millwright.

He was a devoted and gentle family man, member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Ludowici. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 73 years, June Warren Wingate; siblings, Mary Lena (A.D.) Wasdin, Billy (Joy) Wingate and Bobby Wingate; son-in-law, Thomas Lunsford Sr.; and brother-in-law, Ray Gordon.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Lila Janet Lunsford of Allenhurst, and Vicky and Nicky Wells of Ludowici; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy (Angie) Wingate III, Kerry (Billie Ann) Wingate Sr. of Ludowici, Danny (Danette) Wingate Sr. of Screven, and Stephen (Mercedes) Wingate Sr. of Port St. Lucie, Florida; a sister, Eloise Gordon of Jesup; sisters-in-law, Willene Wingate and Shirley Warren of Jesup; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at First Baptist Ludowici with the Rev. Brad Boynton and the Rev. Andy Pusser officiating. Burial was in Baggs Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Bryan Wingate Sr., Bryan Wingate Jr., Kerry Wingate Jr., Mark Wingate, Christopher Wingate, Danny Wingate Jr., Nicholas Wells, Stephen Wingate Jr., Alex Wingate, Thomas Lunsford Jr. and Kerry Wingate.
