Democratic candidate for governor plans Jesup visit

Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Democratic nominee in the Georgia governor’s race, is planning to visit Jesup next week for two events, officials of the Wayne County Democratic Party reported Tuesday.Bottoms is expected to be in Jesup on July 29 for a meet-and-greet at the Jesup Depot, located at 176 N.

Neither rainy weather nor abundant gnats kept people from the Juneteenth celebration at the Wayne County Farmers Market Saturday. Attendees enjoyed entertainment (including the Southern Elite Steppers) and food and other vendors. Above, members of the band Phaze 360 perform.

Waycross man drowns in Lake Grace

A 62-year-old man, Ronald Hrabar of Waycross, drowned in Lake Lindsay Grace last Thursday. According to a report from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Law-Enforcement Division in Brunswick, Hrabar drowned while swimming across the lake with two 12-year-old boys, his grandsons.

Dallas Sikes and Michael Thornton are winners in District 2 runoffs for Wayne County’s Board of Education and Board of Commissioners, respectively.Sikes outpolled Jacob Weaver 463-401 in Tuesday’s nonpartisan runoff for Wayne’s 2nd District school board seat.

Braden Daniels, an 11-year-old Jesup boy, recently had brain surgery for an injury sustained in April, and his family is struggling with the effects on their son.The emotional and financial strain on the family has been very difficult, the parents said.
