Robert W. Waters

Jesup—Robert “Bobby” W. Waters, 79, of Jesup died on Sept. 24, 2022. 

The Illinois native had lived in Wayne County most of his life and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a retired employee with Rayonier after 37 years and an avid golfer and member of the Pine Forest Country Club Men’s Golf Association.

He also enjoyed hunting, collecting knives and reading history books. The 1962 Jesup High School graduate played in the 1959 state championship football game and received a scholarship to Furman University. He opted to serve his country in Vietnam as a U.S. Marine combat soldier.

His parents, Henry and Maudie Waters, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Faye Duhon Waters of Jesup; daughter, Melisa (Eric) Mallard of Jesup; brother, Hank (Mary Jean) Waters of Victoria, Texas; granddaughters, Erica (Jordan) Anderson of Darien and Brittney Mallard (Brenton Fowler) of Cartersville; great-grandson, Eli Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration-of-life service was held Sept. 27 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Todd and the Rev. Will Bacon officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with full military rites. Active pallbearers were his friends and family. Honorary pallbearers were members of the PFCC Men’s Golf Association and fellow employees of Rayonier.

Kenny M. Scott

Jesup—Kenny M. Scott, 64, of Jesup died Sept. 22, 2022, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Wayne County native was a mechanic with Beverly Tire and Oil. He loved to fish and hunt.

His parents, James Garfield and Madeline Scott, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lucretia Pittman Scott of Jesup; two daughters, DeAnn Scott and Diane Kent, both of Jesup; several grandchildren; and other extended family including caregivers Jerry and Georgianna Scott of Hortense.

Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Richard Dobson officiating. Interment followed in the Moody-Tillman Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jerry Scott, Harpe Hurst, Ricky Greene, Robert Greene, James Greene and Levi Greene. Honorary pallbearers were Hampton Brooker, Mikell Scott and Willie Stevens.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of South Georgia for their special care of Kenny.

Dewitt Hugh

“Buddy’ Sapp

Jesup—Dewitt Hugh “Buddy” Sapp, 67, of Jesup died Sept. 26, 2022.

The Wayne County native attended Calvary Baptist Church and was an employee with Rayonier of Jesup. He was a 1975 graduate of Wayne County High School and enjoyed fishing and working on automobiles and chainsaws. He especially loved having coffee with all of his friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, D. Hugh and June Sapp, and his grandparents, George and Dorothy Fender.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sharon Bishop Sapp of Jesup; son, Chris Osborne of Jesup; siblings, Ann (Porky) Anderson, Larry Sapp, and Karen Sapp, all of Jesup; two grandchildren, Grace and Riley Osborne; and extended family.

Celebration-of-life services were held Sept. 28 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Pete Boyd officiating. A private interment was being held by his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 9, Jesup, GA. 31598.

Marlene Ritch

Screven—Marlene Ritch, 85, of Screven died Sept. 26, 2022.

The Wayne County native was a retired secretary with the State of Georgia and a lifetime member of O’Quinn Baptist Church. She loved reading her Bible and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Franklin Ritch; three sons, Ken Ritch, and twins, Reppard and Randy Ritch; and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Stacie (Nathaniel) Wagoner of Screven; grandchildren, JonThomas Wagoner, Meghan Wagoner and Christinia Steele; great-grandchildren, Rayne, Glenn, Flossie, Hailey and Kristin; one great-great-grandchild, Everly; a second daughter and niece, Carla Cook; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at O’Quinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Greenlee and the Rev. Benji McReady officiating. Interment will be in the O’Quinn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

Joel Isaiah Hobbs

Jacksonville, Florida--Joel Isaiah Hobbs, 11, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Sept. 16, 2022.

Arrangements are under the care of Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin, Florida.
