Three wounded in MLK Park gunfire Sunday

A shooting in northeast Jesup has sent three individuals to the hospital.Carlos Mackey, 18; Jaidiah Brantley, 19; and Zechariah Merritt, 19, were injured in the shooting, according to Jesup Police Chief Chris Hamilton.

Election next week to feature big ballot

Election-day voters will have plenty of choices next week.Locally, voters in District 2 and 4 are choosing school board members and party nominees for county commissioner (though no Democrat is running in District 2 and only one Republican is running in District 4).

Strong effort contains the Brantley blaze

The continuing efforts of firefighters and forestry workers over the past week—aided by the rains in the area—have largely extinguished the Brantley County fire that has threatened Southeast Georgia since April 20.

Wildfires spark burn bans

Firefighters from all over the area, including Jesup and Wayne County, work full-time to contain a 5,000-acre fire in Brantley County. Both the city of Jesup and Wayne County have enacted burn bans, and the Georgia Forestry Commission banned all burning in South Georgia Wednesday.
