Wildfires spark burn bans

Firefighters from all over the area, including Jesup and Wayne County, work full-time to contain a 5,000-acre fire in Brantley County. Both the city of Jesup and Wayne County have enacted burn bans, and the Georgia Forestry Commission banned all burning in South Georgia Wednesday.

Jesup man arrested in shooting on Bamboo St.

A man accused of shooting into a house in Jesup and firing shots in the direction of officers who responded to calls about the shooting was arrested at the scene Sunday.
Joshua Adam Crews, 31, was arrested after a brief struggle, Jesup Police Chief Chris Hamilton reported Monday.

Hoyle killed in bicycle collision with vehicle on Holmesville Road

Kevin Earl Hoyle, 52, of Jesup was killed when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle on the shoulder of Holmesville Road last week.
A preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said that the incident is being investigated by the Troop I SCRT (Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team).

Flashing lights on law-enforcement vehicles compete with the lights from the RYAM plant following an incident of shots fired at the U.S. Hwy. 301 intersection with Jaycee Landing Road. No one was reported as injured in the incident, and investigation identified a suspect in the event.
‘Shots fired’ incident brings tighter security to Fall Fair

A report of shots fired near the entrance to the Jaycee Fairgrounds Saturday night drew a prompt response from law enforcement, as well as a beefed-up security presence at the fairgrounds for this week.
The Wayne County Fall Fair began last week and is slated to continue through this Saturday.
