Jesup Council approves funds to continue work on CWCC pool

Construction work on the Cracker Williams Community Center pool and the buildings around the pool are going well, David Bohannon—the city employee who is leading the city’s part of the pool project—told the Jesup City Council Tuesday.

Joshua Lee Sapp Jesup—Joshua Lee Sapp (Bloodsaw), the adopted son of Betty J. Sapp, died on Dec. 10, 2023. Born to a teenage mother, he was adopted by Sapp at the age of 4, and he lived most of his young life in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School.

William Irvin Stipe Jesup—William Irvin Stipe, 81, of Jesup died Nov. 27, 2023, under the care of Georgia Hospice Care. Lovingly referred to as  “Bill,” “Papa Bill” or “Pork Chop,” the Appling County native had lived in Wayne County most of his adult life.

Remembering Jim Bland

We join with the city of Jesup in remembering the late Jim Bland, a community leader who was remembered last Thursday night at the first Christmas tree lighting since the downtown park was named James R. Bland Jr. Park.

Joe Bailey Mount Pleasant—Joe Bailey, 73, of Mount Pleasant died Nov. 16, 2023. The Wayne County native was a member of Jesup Church of God of Prophecy and a retired Brunswick Pulp and Paper employee. He was an avid hunter, hunting everything from deer to turkeys to hogs.

Laurie Jean Butsch Jesup—Laurie Jean Butsch, 54, died peacefully on Nov. 11, 2023, at Landmark Hospital in Savannah after a lengthy illness. A resident of Jesup for the past eight years and former resident of Texas and Indiana, she was born on Nov. 12, 1968, in Niskayuna, New York.
