A fire inside the new building at EAM was contained quickly by responders from the Jesup Fire Department, with assistance from several local and area fire departments.
Jesup Fire Chief Josh Huffman reported today that the call on the fire at the intersection of Macon Street and Sunset Boulevard came in at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. He said the preliminary report shows the fire was extinguished within 30 to 45 minutes and was contained with the building.
There were no injuries associated with the fire.
Huffman said there is no report yet on the ignition source, but the fire involved the machinery inside the large new building at the site. Observers said that the fire was likely in the three ovens contained in the building.
Fire trucks from Screven, Wayne County and Ludowici were reported enroute to the fire, but no official list of responding agencies was available in the preliminary report.
EAM manufactures three varieties of engineered absorbent materials utilizing fluff produced from wood chips.
Huffman said the engines and firefighters remained on the scene clearing smoke and extinguishing hot spots until 10:30 p.m.
