Laverne Sapp Harris

Jesup—Laverne Sapp Harris, 90, of Jesup died April 28, 2022.

The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a member of Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.  She enjoyed caring for her family as a wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Harris; her son, James B. Harris; a daughter, Patricia Mae Harris; a granddaughter, Ashley Diane Harris; and two grandsons, Jason and James “Jr.” Solomon Harris.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Bill) Brown of Jesup; sons, James Carroll (Joann) Harris, Carl (Jeris) Harris, Roger (Sybil) Harris and Harold (Donna) Harris, all of Wayne County; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Trudy Arbuckle; a brother, Russell Sapp; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 1 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Elder Jason Deal officiating. Interment followed in Lake Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Kyle Ellis, Zach Ellis, Chris Woods, Dustin Ogden, Jeremy Flynn and Justin O’Quinn.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Betty Sue Spinner

Jesup—Betty Sue Spinner, 78, of Jesup died April 30, 2022.

The Wayne County native was a charter member of Epworth United Methodist Church and a 1963 Jesup High School graduate.

She was most known as your hairdresser, your insurance agent or being a second mother to many of her friends’ children.

Many will remember her Christian unconditional love in many situations.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, William Joseph and Elizabeth Pound Spinner.

Survivors include several cousins, including Pam Frazier of Canton, and a host of many life-long caring friends.

Celebration-of-life services were held May 4 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steven S. Larson officiating.

Graveside services followed at Sunnyside Cemetery, 8th Ave. East, Cordele. Honorary pallbearers were her many friends as well as GHC Hospice employees.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Benny B. Adams

Hortense—Benny B. Adams, 84, went to join his late wife, Lona, and other loved ones on April 23, 2022.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was born in Screven County and moved several times across South Georgia before ending up in McIntosh County, living his dream on “Papa’s Farm.”

He was a U.S. Army veteran who was always looking to help others. He retired from Georgia Pacific, but it would always be Brunswick Pulp to him, where he spent decades cruising timber and enjoying the outdoors as he worked.

If you were looking for him, you would see him on the river fishing or pulled over on a dirt road talking to someone he saw or knew. He loved his family and the outdoors. He was lovingly known as “Papa” to his family.

Survivors include his three children, Donna Boatright, David (Mayra) Adams and Diane (Gary) Ray; six grandchildren, Sara, Chris, Lora, Jennifer, Katherine and Ben; five great-grandchildren; several great-grandfurkids; two sisters, Jeanette Sapp and Geneva Cason; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on May 7 at 10 a.m. from Mt. Olive Cemetery, 1 Mt. Olive Road, Hortense, with the Rev. Randy Pruitt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to a hospice of your choice.

Mary “Freeda” Brazell

Ludowici—Mary “Freeda” Brazell, 91, died April 25, 2022, at her home under the care of her family and GHC Hospice.

She was a lifelong resident of Long County, had worked in local factories and was a homemaker. She was an avid gardener known for her “green thumb” ability to grow any type of plant. Her flowers and gardens were a source of pride. As a homemaker, she treasured time spent with her family, always preparing delicious meals, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of Elim Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice “Red” Brazell, and sons, Paul Roberson, Ricky Brazell and Jessie Brazell.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Simmons, Betty (Billy) Brazell and Francis Brazell of Ludowici, and Addie Faye (Scott) Berneche of Jesup; sons, Alvin (Sylvia) Roberson of Ludowici, William Brazell of Jesup, and Jackson “Junior” (Lori) Brazell of Carlton; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held April 28 from Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ryan Wilson officiating. Burial was in Baggs Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Stetson Simmons, Brett Simmons, Hunter Dunwody, Justin Brazell, Jordan Brazell and Kelvin Roberson.
