Hinson Mosley
Jesup—Hinson Mosley, 93, of Jesup died Sept. 1, 2026.
The Jeff Davis native was the youngest of five children born to Nan Lou Mosley and Robert Mosley.
After finishing school in Screven, he worked three years with Atlantic Coast Railroad, and then he served four years with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from the military, he went to work with Rayonier, where he worked for 37 years and retired in 1994. During this time, he took night courses from Waycross College, graduated from Foxboro Instrumentation School, and ran the family farm.
He was an active member of Odum Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Young Farmers and served on the supervisory committee of Altamaha Federal Credit Union. He was active in the Local 787, and the Screven Masonic Lodge 368, where he recently was awarded his 50-year apron.
In 1992 he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, and he served for 14 years on several committees—but primarily the Appropriations Committee. He chaired the Game, Fish, and Parks Committee, and he was vice-chairman of the Transportation Committee. Much of the area’s four-lane highways on Hwy. 84 and Hwy. 301 in Wayne County bears the mark of his hard work and dedication.
In 2007, after he retired from the legislature, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Satilla REMC, where he served as a vice-chairman until he retired. His goal was always to serve people with honesty and integrity. A friend once called him truly “the people’s representative.”
He was preceded in death by his brothers Osteen (Mildred) Mosley, J.E. (Eudell) Mosley, Conrad (Kathryn) Mosley and Wayne Mosley, and sisters Dot Scott Leggett and Delaine Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Linda Lawson Mosley; four children, Kim (Mel) Wages, Andy (Starla) Mosley, Sharon (Harold) Hilton and Darrell (Venita) Mosley; a brother, R.N. Mosley; a sister, Lee Mosley Roberts; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Vann Dempsey and Chaplain Phil Bunce and the Rev. Kipp Manning officiating. Interment will follow in Screven City Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Active pallbearers will be his family.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Odum Baptist Church and the Hospice of South Georgia Staff.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
