James Osborne
Jesup—Elder James Donald “Jim” Osborne, 86, of Jesup and the Mount Pleasant community died Sept. 26, 2026.
The Screven native was a member of Jesup Primitive Baptist Church and No. 311 American Legion, a 1958 graduate of Screven High School, a U.S. Army veteran, and a 35-year retiree with Rayonier. For several years, he pastored several Primitive Baptist churches.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, bluegrass music, traveling and researching history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ida Sheffield Osborne; a son, Mark Osborne; and a sister, Wanda Osborne.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Vicky Howard Osborne of Mount Pleasant community; a son, John Osborne of Jesup; two daughters, Teresa Scarborough of Jesup and Debra (James) Dodge of Ludowici; a sister, Glenda Osborne of Jesup; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many cousins.
Funeral services were held Sept. 29 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home with Elder Keith Tillman and Durwood Miller officiating. Interment followed in Union Cemetery with a U.S. flag presentation. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Rev. David Hubbs Sr.
Jesup—The Rev. David Hubbs Sr., 77, of Jesup died Sept. 28, 2026, after a short illness.
The Harlen, Kentucky, native resided in Jesup the past 56 years and was a member of Crossroads Church of God. Throughout his tenure as a pastor with Southeast Church of God, he pastored Ephesus Church of God and also Lakeland Church of God.
He was a retired 38-year employee with Norfolk Southern Railway and served three years in the United States Army and three years in the reserves. While enlisted, he served 11 months in the Vietnam Conflict in Company B of the 575th Engineer Battalion ,where he received a Purple Heart.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, the Rev. Walter and Elsie Hubbs; two brothers, Roy Hubbs and the Rev. Laman Hubbs; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Clyde) Calhoun; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hubbs; and a brother-in-law, Zollie Bowling.
Survivors include his beautiful and loving wife of 56 years, Viola Woods Hubbs of Jesup; a daughter, Jennifer (James) Johnson of Jesup; a son, David Jr. (Shannon) Hubbs of Jesup; grandchildren, Anthony Johnson, Maycee (Tim) Pushee, Elsie (Walker) Reddish, Gracie (Aaron) Horne and Ashley Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tatum, Felix, Hattie, Amelia, Ezra and Dex; brothers, Grady (Betty) Hubbs, Dennis (Charlette) Hubbs, Tommy (Joyce) Hubbs, the Rev. Paul (Fonda) Hubbs, Orville Hubbs and Roger (Star) Hubbs; a sister, Brenda Bowling; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Celebration-of-life services will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. from Crossroads Church of God with Pastor Brandon Stone and Pastor Larry Giles officiating. Interment will follow in Hubbs Family Cemetery off of Woods Bridge Road, Jesup.
Active pallbearers will be Andrew Hubbs, Walker Reddish, Aaron Horne, Anthony Johnson, Tim Pushee, Dylan Keithley and Timothy Hewitt. Honorary pallbearers will be the pastors of the Southeast Church of God and the past and present employees of Norfolk Southern Railway.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at Crossroads Church of God on Hwy. 169 in Jesup.
