John Ganz Hensley

Jesup—John Ganz Hensley, 78, of Jesup died June 5, 2022.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed hobbies such as hunting, fishing and building things.

The Nebraska native and U.S. Army veteran settled in Wayne County in 1989 and served as an associate warden for FCI-Jesup. He played an integral part in the planning and construction of the prison. He took his position very seriously, and as a reward for his efforts, the entrance road to the facility was named “Hensley Road.”

He was a member of the Jesup United Methodist Church and the Jesup Elks Lodge and was also a Shriner and Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gelene Hensley of Jesup; a daughter, Debbie Hensley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a son, John G. (Holly) Hensley of Jacksonville, Florida; a brother, David (Jean) Hensley of Gordon, Nebraska; and grandchildren, Justin and Chase Hensley of Jacksonville.

A celebration-of-life service was held on June 8 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with military honors.

Active pallbearers were his fellow members of the Jesup Elks Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jesup Elks Aidmore Hospital, 2394 Morrison Road SW, Conyers, GA 30094.

Larry G. Lagasse

Ludowici—Larry G. Lagasse, 76, died May 22, 2022, in Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Caribou, Maine, to the late Gerald and Alice Lagasse. He was in the military for four years and served in the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the University of Maine and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was a flight instructor and flew in the Gulf of Mexico. He later developed an interest in becoming a site acquisitionist for several telephone companies.

After retiring, his interest shifted, and he began a small business, where he etched and carved glass.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Lagasse of Ludowici; a brother, Lloyd Lagasse of Caribou; a nephew, Jason Lagasse of Alaska; a special aunt, Leona Petroski of Enfield, Connecticut; an uncle, Arthur Michaud of Caribou; a very special niece, Brittney Baxter of Atlanta; a special nephew, Clint (Hailey) Baxter of Riceboro; a great-nephew, Will Baxter of Riceboro; and brothers-in-law, Revis (Betty) Baxter of Ludowici and Geral (Reba) Baxter of Glennville.

Funeral services were held May 26 at Howard Funeral Home in Ludowici.

Dylan James Landon

Jesup--Dylan James Landon, 29, died June 3, 2022.

A native and lifelong resident of Jesup, he was born on July 31, 1992. He was a handyman who did carpenter work for a living.

He loved fishing, trips to the beach, and spending time with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Maxine and Buddy Landon; maternal grandfather, Jesse Owens; and infant brother, Jerry Lamar Landon.

Survivors include his mother, Sheila Sandoval of Jesup; his father, Jerry Landon of Jesup; his grandmother, Linda Owens of Jesup; a brother, Chance Almanza of Hazlehurst; a sister, Jesseka Owens of Jesup; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, at 2 p.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Worley officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.
