Larry “Troy” Wimpey

Mount Vernon—Larry “Troy” Wimpey, 51, devoted and loving husband, father, papa, son, brother and friend, died peacefully on Sept. 2, 2021.

He was known by all he met as a happy, friendly, good and Godly Christian man.

He was always quick with a kind word, a prayer for anyone who needed one, a helping hand, and many completely useless pieces of information, always preceded by a pointed finger and enthusiastic “Did you know…?” all with a smile on his face. He took great pride in his business, Wimpey’s Custom Designs Cabinet Company, which he spent 25-plus years building. No matter how challenging the job, his craftsmanship and creativity knew no bounds. He was known for the care and perfectionism he poured into each piece and set of cabinets that he made.

As proud as he was of his life’s work, his greatest pride and joy was his family.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 28 wonderful years, Sabrina Wimpey; his children, Alexandria (Brandon) McGlynn, Tyler (Marisa) Wimpey, Troy Abram Wimpey and Alayna Wimpey; his three beautiful granddaughters, Charlotte McGlynn, Evangeline “Evie” McGlynn and Amelia “Millie Jane” Wimpey; his parents, Larry and Dorothy Wimpey; his sister, Kristie (Jeff) Williams; his honorary sister, Jessica Conner;  his mother-in-law, Jolene Coulter; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Will and Cindy Jarriel, Hope and Derric Tubbs and Jarrod Bottoms; and extended family and friends too numerous to count.

He is preceded in death and is now rejoicing in Heaven with many loved family members and dear friends.

He was a member of Calvary’s Grace Baptist Church in Ailey, where he humbly served as song leader and Teen Sunday School teacher for more than 15 years. He was a beloved role-model and source of wisdom for all “his kids” that he taught with the help of his wife.

He enjoyed working out at the gym, and relished his time on the river in his boat after a long week of hard work. He was particularly invested in the collection of fruit trees he tended in his back yard, and regularly kept his family informed of how many fruits he had collected that day, in spite of the efforts of “those stinkin’ squirrels,” with whom he had an ongoing feud.

More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. Many happy memories were made sitting around the kitchen table eating, talking and playing board games; countless fishing trips, cookouts, birthday parties, and family trips were had; he enthusiastically agreed whenever he heard the words “Papa, go ridin’?”, and was always up for any time he could spend with his loved ones.

He was a loving, faithful, and most of all Godly man. He loved his Lord above all else, and that love showed in everything he did and every life he touched. He is so loved and will be so missed.

The funeral services were held Sept. 8 at Calvary’s Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Patrick officiating.  Burial was held at O’Quinn Baptist Church in Wayne County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary’s Grace Baptist Church,  PO Box 154, Mount Vernon, GA 30445.

Florence Carolyn Williams

Hampden, Main—Florence Carolyn Will-iams, 80, passed away quietly with her children by her side Aug. 28, 2021, after a brief illness.

Carolyn, as she was known, was born Nov. 21, 1940 in Hazlehurst to Ethel and Samuel Mosley.

She grew up in Screven and she raised her children in Jesup, before returning to Maine where her children and grandchildren live. Her grandchildren were the breath of life to her, and she enjoyed enriching relationships with them all up until her passing. She was generously gifted with many talents, cooking and sewing among them, but perhaps her best known trait was her direct communication.

She was kind and generous and was happiest when she had a big crowd around her kitchen. She began cooking when she was so small that she needed a stool to stand on to make biscuits for her large family of four brothers and three sisters. Her Southern-style cooking routinely caused her guest’s belts to be loosened for comfort’s sake. She never measured ingredients, she just grabbed handfuls and cooked, and it was always perfect.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gospel music and God, but she made an art form out of blaming allergies as the reason she had to leave anywhere.

Her love for her family was above all else.

She is survived by two daughters, Dixie Redmond and her husband, Rick, and their two sons, Alex and Josh, Katrina Barnes and her husband, Doug, and her two sons, Patrick and Nicholas, and Doug’s daughter, Emily; two sons, Herb Sargent and his wife, Tristine, and his daughter, Savannah Davis and her husband, Tyler, and son, James, and Tristine’s son, Colby; Shane Sargent and his wife, Lee, and their sons, Sam, Ben and Will; her stepchildren, Karen Littlefield, Susan Gallant, Toni Smoak, Livia Freeman, Paula Chavis, Wendy Phillips, Wendell Spell Jr. and Charlie Spell. She is also survived by sisters, Ruby Daniels and Patsy Nolan, and many beloved nieces and nephews. In recent years, Carolyn formed a special bond with her second-cousin, Joseph Moseley and his wife, Lindsey, and got immense joy from the pictures and videos they shared with her of their young son, Jaxson, and their daughter, Avery.

Services will be private for family. Those wishing to remember her in a special way may make donations to Good Shepherd Food Bank www.gsfb.org. Condolences to the family may be expressed at brookingssmith.com.
