Henry “Grady” Marr
Jesup—Henry “Grady” Marr, 80, died Aug. 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who worked many years at Rayonier in the machine room. He was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and his church family, and his life was a testimony of kindness, faith and devotion.
He will be remembered for his love of family, his gentle spirit, and the steady example he set for all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the lives of those blessed to share in his journey, his family said.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mable Marr; his grandson, Chris Lane; his parents, Arthur and Winnie Marr; and his brother, Cecil Marr, and sisters, Alice Marr Thomas and Peggy Aspinwall.
Grady is survived by his dear brother and sister-in-law, Herschel (Kay) Marr, and many cherished nieces and nephews, Toni (Keith) Ray, Tammy (Daniel) Porvalik, Jason (Shelby) Aspinwall, Karri (Craig) Grantham and Kristin (Jay) McReady. He also leaves behind several great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry forward fond memories of their uncle. He is lovingly remembered by two stepdaughters, Donna (Ralph) Brankel and Lisa (Billy) Crews, along with his step-grandchildren, all of whom he cared for dearly and considered an important part of his family, his family said.
Funeral services were held Aug. 24 at O’Quinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Mullis, the Rev. Dennie Waters and the Rev. David Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the O’Quinn Cemetery with U.S. flag presentation. Active pallbearers will be his family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow employees of Rayonier, the staff members of Hospice of South Georgia and Harborview Health System.

Miles Norman Moseley Jr.
Odum—Miles Norman Moseley Jr., 70, of Odum died Aug. 22, 2025, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
The Wayne County native was a member of Melton’s Chapel Church in Baxley. His retirement from law enforcement included the Baxley Police Department and the Georgia Department of Public Safety “MCCD.” After retirement, he worked at Hendrix Hauling as a dump truck driver.
He loved music and played the bass guitar, guitar and several other instruments. He sang with the gospel groups “The Apostles” and “Joyful Noise” of Baxley.
One could find him on the golf course or fishing or watching a good NASCAR race.
His sister, Norma Jean Whitley, preceded him in death, along with his brothers, Bob, Wayne, Bill and Cary Moseley.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Lynnette Stone Moseley of Odum; daughters, Kellie (Seth) Keough, Karla (Andrew) Werkheiser and Madeline (Scott) Lezert-Ezell; a son, Eli Stone; eight grandchildren, Kaleb Williamson, Memphis, Trinity and Sydney Duisen, Kaitlyn and Haley Renee Joyner, Holly Werkheiser and Haley Drew Kersey; a sister-in-law, Clora Moseley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Aug. 25 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Walker Reddish officiating. Interment followed in Flint Branch Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jarrett Moseley, Lance Reddish, Bill Moseley, Seth Duisen, Isaac Odom and Scott Ezell. Honorary pallbearers were former coworkers of the Baxley Police Department and the 12:30 Men’s Golf Group at Pine Forest Country Club.

Larry Thomas Wimpey
Screven—Larry Thomas Wimpey, 78, died peacefully on Aug. 23, 2025 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born in Screven to Clyteal C. Wimpey and Bertha Tyre Wimpey. He was a Class of 1964 graduate of Screven High School and called Screven home for most of his life with a brief absence, during his time serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
After an honorable discharge, he returned home, where he met and married Dorothy Mock, who he loved to say was his wife and best friend for 56 years. They were blessed with two children, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a fifth great-grandchild on the way.
He enjoyed his retirement after a 33-year career at Rayonier. He filled his time with service at Faith Baptist Church, where he was an active and much-loved member. He served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Hands of Faith Bible ministry, general maintenance man, and No. 1 heckler of his pastor and friend, Brother Mark Summers.
In his free time, he tended to his horses and cows, tuned into Fox News or his “Western programs,” and rode his four-wheeler around the family neighborhood, often with a grandchild or two along for the ride. These rides were accompanied by many stories of growing up with his seven siblings on the family farm. He also enjoyed riding his Honda Shadow motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, C.F. Hatcher; his son, Troy Wimpey; his sisters, Denny W. Mullis, Lynette H. Portain and Marie W. Schwarz; and his brother-in-law, Roger Oglesby.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mock Wimpey; daughters, Kristie Wimpey Williams (Jeff Reed) of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Sabrina Bottoms Wimpey (wife of Troy) of Ailey; grandchildren, Alex Wimpey (Brandon) McGlynn, Tyler (Alyssa) Wimpey, Troy Abram Wimpey, Alayna Wimpey, Hunter Williams, Jordan Williams (Nolan Rhodes), Isabelle Williams and Madison Williams; great-granddaughters, Charlotte, Evie, Millie Jane and Kennedy; a brother, Shannon (Nell) Wimpey; sisters, Debra Oglesby, Pasty (Brian) Wilbur and Mary Ann (Gary) Flowers; brothers-in-law, Glenn Mullis and Bill Schwartz; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 26 at O’Quinn Baptist Church in Screven with the Rev. I.B. Boyette and Pastor Mark Summers officiating. Graveside services followed in O’Quinn Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Mullis officiating. Active pallbearers were Gary Tyre (Cosmo), Ronnie Cooksey, Andy Simms, Ronnie Mullis, Casey Wimpey, Michael Patrick, Garrett Flowers and Jeremy Patrick.

George Elmer Roberson
Jesup—George Elmer Roberson, 85, of Jesup died Aug. 25, 2025.
The Wayne County native loved the Lord and was an active member, deacon and Sunday school teacher of Altamaha Baptist Church and former member and deacon of Anderson Drive Baptist Church.
He was a retired ITT Rayonier employee. The Baxley Children’s Home was very important to him as he served as a trustee for many years. He was a Mason with the Masonic Lodge in Blackshear. This godly man had very few words but was very family-centered and a “jack of all trades,” according to his family.
Fishing was a favorite hobby, but he really enjoyed watching action movies and Westerns.
His former wife of 54 years, Patricia Wright Roberson, preceded him in death, along with his sister, Mary Smith, and two brothers, Harold “Frog” and Jerry Roberson.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Crosby Dukes; a son, Jeff (Emily) Roberson of Jesup; a daughter, Becky (Nicki) Roberson of Jesup; eight grandchildren, Woog, Hunter and Laura Kate Roberson, Bekah (Nicholas) Priester, Brittany Bennett, Paige and Riley Denison and Demi (Chris) Edenfield; four great-grandchildren, Eli, Emma, Eryn Edenfield and Violet Priester; three brothers, Isham (Sharon) Roberson, Gopher Roberson and Steve Roberson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held August 27 at Rinehart Chapel. Private family interment will follow in the Altamaha Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Chris Edenfield, Otis Moxley, Woog Roberson, Nicholas Priester, Ben Cason and Dennis Dunham.

Marie Wimpey Schwarz
Ellijay—Marie Wimpey Schwarz, 76, of Ellijay, and formerly of Screven, died Aug. 4, 2025, at Northside Cherokee Hospital of Canton.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1948, in Jesup to the late Clyteal C. Wimpey and the late Bertha Tyre Wimpey.
She graduated in 1966 from Screven High School, the last graduating class of the school. She was voted “wittiest” by her classmates. She worked in civil service at Hunter Army Airfield and was a seamstress for Regal Rugs. She also enjoyed motherhood. She loved her family with all her heart, her family said.
She grew up in O’Quinn Baptist Church in Screven. As an adult, she was of the Pentecostal faith. She touched many lives with love, kindness and compassion by sharing her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her family noted.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, C.F. Hatcher; her sisters, Denny Mullis, Lynette Partain; and a brother-in-law, Roger Oglesby.
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, William “Bill” Schwarz of Ellijay; three daughters, Jenny (Eric) Crowley of Talking Rock, Rebecca (Adam) Hall of Ellijay and Betsy Schwarz of Murphy, North Carolina; two brothers, Shannon (Nell) Wimpey and Larry (Dot) Wimpey all of Screven; three sisters, Debra W. Oglesby, Patsy H. (Brian) Wilbur and Mary Ann H. (Gary) Flowers, all of Screven; one brother-in-law, Glen Mullis of Screven; five grandchildren, Brian Pritchett, Dawson Crowley, Koby (Ashley) Allen, Abigail Allen and Samuel Clayton; and one great-grandchild, Aubrey Allen.
