Lakeston Oak Stevens

Jesup—Lakeston “Lake” Oak Stevens, infant son of Aaron and Heather Stevens, died May 17, 2021.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two sisters, Raelyn “Rae Rae” and Rynlee “Ri Ri” Stevens; maternal grandmother, Dina Westmoreland of Jesup; maternal godfather, Willie Love of Jesup; paternal grandparents, Mary Jo Stevens of Douglas and William “Willie” Stevens of Waycross; paternal great-grandparents, Ted (Judy) Ogden of Odum; great-uncle, Jamie (Lindy) Greene of Odum; and other extended relatives.

He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandparents, Phil and Lois English.

Graveside funeral services were held May 20 in the Moody Tillman Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Dobson officiating.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mae Morgan Dunham

Jesup—Mae Morgan Dunham, 94, of Jesup died May 26, 2021.

The Brantley County native had lived in Wayne County most of her adult life and was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church.  She was retired from SunTrust Bank.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Claude Thomas and John Fletcher “J.F.” Dunham Jr.; and a son, Dwight Dunham.

Survivors include three sons, Craig Thomas of Fayetteville, Mike (Johnna) Thomas of Jesup and Dennis (Patty) Dunham of Jesup; a daughter-in-law, Kathie Dunham of Jesup; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 28 at Altamaha Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Lee officiating. Private family interment was in Altamaha Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altamaha Baptist Church, 6622 Oglethorpe Road, Jesup, GA 31545.

Paul Pribble

Jesup—Paul Pribble, 99, of Jesup died May 26, 2021.

The Ohio native had lived in many places in his adult life, but after retirement, he and his wife, Rachel Parker Pribble, desired to retire to Rachel’s hometown of Jesup.

He involved himself in many civic activities within the community, including the Jesup City Cemetery commissioner. He was instrumental in expanding the current cemetery capacity while adding fencing, sprinklers, lighting, vegetation, and the U.S. flag and new pole. He was also involved in getting the main roads paved in the cemetery.

He also served as Beautification Committee chair and member of the American Legion. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, and he has served as an elder, deacon and member on the Church Board of Directors at Jesup Presbyterian Church.

He was instrumental in obtaining the caboose and placing it to honor Jesup’s history to railroads. He received many other civil commendations.  His greatest civic honor was being awarded Georgia’s “1996 Man of the Year” and was grand marshal of the parade.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, and daughter-in-law, Jan Pribble.

Survivors include his son, John A. Pribble; two granddaughters, Amy (Robert) Eastlack of Davenport, Florida, and Paula (Duane) Hunt of Clermont, Florida; 10 great-grandchildren, Rick, Christina, John, Nathan, Austin, Darren, Sarah, Ricky, Hunter and Gabriella; and five great-great-grandchildren, Carter, Shiloh, Oliver, Liam and Blake.

Funeral services were held June 2 at Jesup Presbyterian Church with Pastor Pete Ullmann officiating. Interment followed in his beloved Jesup City Cemetery with military honors.

John Kenneth “Kenny” Davis

Jesup—John Kenneth “Kenny” Davis, 80, of Jesup, formerly of Columbus, died  May 31, 2021.

The Wayne County native was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus and attended Calvary Baptist Church of Jesup. He was a 1959 graduate of Jesup High School, a member of the Yellow Jacket football team and was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame. He was also involved in other sports in Wayne County.

The U.S. Army veteran was a retired insurance sales representative for several companies and was an avid golfer.

He was predeceased by former wife and mother of his children, Priscilla Smart Davis; his parents, William and Fannie Thomas Davis; brothers, Rex, Joseph, Bill, Jack, Tommy, Harry and Burley; and sister, Addie Viola “Vee” Donahue.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Dubberly Davis of the Mt. Pleasant Community; a daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Perkins of Mansfield; a son; Scott (Jane) Davis of Ooltewah, Tennessee; a brother, Earl (Martha) Davis of Jesup; a sister, Barbara (Eddie) Roberts of Brunswick;  five grandchildren, Dalton, Jasper, Davis, Jensen and Joel; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Perkins and Pastor Vann Dempsey officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 8, at 2 p.m. in Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus with military honors.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at funeral home on Monday.

Geraldine Perkins Davis

Offerman—Geraldine Perkins Davis, 83, died May 28, 2021, at home.

A native and lifelong resident of Offerman, she was born on May 30, 1937, to the late Abb P. Perkins and Carrie Franklin Perkins Chancey. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family.

She was always working. She developed a strong work ethic at a young age, when she worked in tobacco. It was said that she could pick tobacco faster than anyone else around. Later in life, when she had children, she had mastered the art of sewing and would sew clothing for her children.

She was a longtime member of Offerman Baptist Church and in her spare time enjoyed ceramics, growing beautiful flowers, adding to her impressive collection of salt and pepper shakers, and playing bass with her husband to bluegrass tunes with all their friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Davis; her siblings, Junior Perkins, J.C. Perkins, Caldeen Kelly, Vernon Perkins, Willie Carl Perkins and Clinton Perkins; and her half-siblings, Arrie Lee Perkins, Flora Perkins, Lula Lare Strickland, Carlos Perkins, Leonard Perkins, Sarah Dell Lipthratt, Minnie Susie Barrs, Lloyd Davis and Leroy Chancey.

Survivors include her husband of 70-plus years, J.B. Davis of Offerman; children, Diane (Randy) Crawford of Patterson, Juanita (Jack) Tyre of Offerman, Benjy (Roxanne) Davis of Patterson and Lyndell Davis and fiancé, Shane, of Offerman; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and a large extended family.

Funeral services were held June 1 at Offerman Baptist Church with the Rev. James Lightsey, the Rev. Andy Gillis and the Rev. Adam Walker officiating.

Interment followed in Offerman Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jerry David Davis Jr., Michael Davis, Joseph Brandon Davis, Nathan Ray Davis, John Davis, Jeffrey Davis and Ross Byrd.

Carrie Lynn Hardee

Screven—Carrie Lynn Hardee, 33, died May 26, 2021, at home after a long and courageous battle with diabetes.

A resident of Wayne County for most of her life, she was born Aug. 3, 1987, in Marion, South Carolina. After graduating with honors from Everest College in Atlanta, she worked as a medical assistant.

She loved listening to music and spending time in the sun, whether at the beach, lake or river or in her front yard. She always took time to enjoy the simple things in life, such as sitting on the porch and watching the animals next door.

Although she was feisty at times and tough when she needed to be, she had a soft spot for her family and friends. She would do anything in her power to help a friend in need. When she blew a kiss, she told the receiver to stick it in his or her pocket as she stuck his or her kiss in hers.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vivian Hodge, Geneva and Robert Maine and Temple Pittman, and an uncle, Gregory McMichael.

Survivors include her former husband, James Hardee of Lakewood, Colorado; a daughter, Shyanne Hardee of Lakewood; a son, Christopher Pruitt of Screven; her mother and father, Rodney and Janet Pinyan of Screven; sisters, Holly Brannen of Jesup and Heather and Bryan Landon of Screven; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Memorial services were held May 31 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home  with the Rev. Dickie Waters officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Logan Landon, Hunter Landon, Austin Landon, Braegan Todd, Jayden Drury, Oscar Moschettieri, Bryan Landon, Zach Hutchinson, Athens Brannen and Alive’a Brannen.
