Darlene Marie Romeira Prekop
Jesup—Darlene Marie Romeira Prekop, 69, died peacefully on June 18, 2025, at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia and surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Oct. 28, 1955, in Brunswick to the late Alexander and Edis Spradley Romeira. She spent her early years in Jesup before relocating to Brandon, Florida, where she lived 15 years and worked for Brandon Printing Inc.
After relocating back to Jesup, she retired and enjoyed a slower pace of life, staying home and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime practicing Catholic but had been attending Unity Church of God for the past several years. In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting with her friends and family, working crossword puzzles, and watching game shows on television.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Prekop; a daughter, Michelle Moody; and three sisters, Rose Marie Nail, Mary Aline Thompson and Pauline Natalie Manning.
Survivors include her companion of 16 years, Cecil Aspinwall of Jesup; a son, Charles Lanier of Jesup; a sister, Udell Marion (Peter) of Valrico, Florida; grandchildren, Lexus Lanier, Wesley Lanier, Warren Lanier, Tyler Smith and Chase Smith; great-grandchildren, Levi and Weslynn; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members; several special nieces, Marie (Gary) Goodrich, Victoria (Bill) West and Jennifer (Steve) Kriegbaum (Steve); and a nephew, Kerry Marion.
Funeral services were held June 21 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with the Rev. Joe Manning officiating.
Interment followed in Manningtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Warren and Wesley Lanier, Bill West, Jeremiah Spradley, Brooker Wilson and Tim Sloan.

Alice Lyons Barfield
Jesup—Alice Lyons Barfield, 94, of Jesup died June 19, 2025.
The Manor native had lived in Wayne County the past 40 years and was a member of Grace Point Worship Center in Midway. She and her husband of 50 years, Ervin Barfield, owned and operated “Alice and Erv’s Sandwich Shop” for many years in the St. Petersburg, Florida, and Clearwater, Florida, area. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Alice Stoddard of Jesup, Annameria Minton of Kentucky, Sandy Barfield of Helen and Tammy Nash of Jesup.
Graveside funeral services were held June 22 in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Art Stoddard officiating.

Larry W. McLendon
Jesup—Larry W. McLendon, 73, a devoted husband, father and #Papa died after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The Tattnall County native lived most of his life in Jesup. He retired as lead operator in the caustic area of Rayonier Advanced Materials after 44 years of service. His humble spirit was demonstrated through his generosity and selfless acts of kindness and love, his family said, adding that he cherished his family above all else and in their eyes he was their hero.
Melba, his wife of 55 years, was his high school sweetheart, best friend and “No. 1 girl.” He enjoyed spending time with family, whether it was back-porch sitting, annual summer beach vacations or simple family get-togethers.
A strong man of his faith, he was a member of Unity Church of God and the Believers’ Sunday School class. His faith in God was quiet, yet echoed loudly in his character and actions, his family said.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilbert and Doris McLendon; two brothers, Wayne and Joseph McLendon; and two sisters, Linda McLendon and Shirley Storm.
Survivors include his loving wife, Melba Sapp McLendon, of Jesup; two adoring daughters, Stephanie (Andy) Thompson of Brunswick and Natalie (Robbie) Thompson of Brunswick; his cherished grandchildren, Jacob (Amelia) Cook, Alex Cook, Zach Thompson and Sophie Thompson; and two sisters, Kathy Rogers of Hazlehurst and Phyllis Brantley of Jesup.
Celebration-of-life services were held June 25 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Calvin Anderson and the Rev. George Moxley officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Church of God, 1580 Sunset Blvd, Jesup, GA 31545.
