Nona Faye Dubberly Mallard
Odum—Nona Faye Dubberly Mallard, 94, of Odum died May 2, 2026, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
The Wayne County native was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she quietly helped with various church ministries. Her favorite pastimes were shopping and gardening.
Her husband, George Wilford Mallard, preceded her in death, along with six brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Robert Chris) St. Dennis of Odum and Laura Hollingsworth of Statesboro; two sons, Ricky (Audrey) Mallard of Odum and Eric (Melisa) Mallard of Jesup; grandchildren, Christy Johnson, Shelli Carter, Blake Wasdin, Rachel Wasdin, Heather Wasdin, Joshua Hollingsworth, Clint Mallard, Brett Mallard, Ryan Mallard, Erica Anderson and Brittany Fowler; great-grandchildren, Sydney Priester, Kayla Overstreet, Nicolas Carter, Banks Wasdin, Tripp Harvey, Kayden Wasdin, Jace Wasdin, Lailan Johnson, Dylani Johnson, Hazel Belle, Haley Belle, Owen Belle, Honey Lovett, Collin Mallard, Emma Mallard Sara Mallard, Kailey Mallard, Kaleb King, Aubrey King, Eli Anderson and Silas Anderson; great-great grandchildren, Bryce Phillips and Wyatt Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held May 5 at Rinehart Chapel with Elders Wayne Broadhead and Eddie Folkner officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Clint, Brett and Ryan Mallard, Blake Wasdin, Harper Johnson and Nicolas Carter. Honorary pallbearers were her numerous caregivers.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Roland “Ron” Turner
Odum—Roland “Ron” Turner, 80, of Odum died April 23, 2026, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
The Ohio native had lived in Wayne County the past 32 years and was a member of his much-loved church, New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. He served his Lord by teaching Sunday school. He enjoyed his career of truck driving where he could travel the roads, “mechanic” and see new sights. Nature was a very important part of his life, especially fishing the local waters and watching the birds.
He served his country in the National Guard and could recall all the details of war and history of the United States. His love for his family was immense, and he even played Santa Claus at the Wayne County Library.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gene (Vivian) Turner and Willis Turner, and a son-in-love, Michael Harp.
Survivors include his loving and faithful wife of 63 years, Karen Turner of Odum; two daughters, Kellie Harp and Martyann (James) Grant; two sons, Kevin (Deborah) Turner and Grant Turner; nine grandchildren, Tessa (Brian), Steven (Lauren), Kayleigh, Jorden, Bryant, Hunter, Brent (Emilie), Tyler and Haley; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joann (Donn) Minter and Lois (Pete) Goodwin; two brothers, Rick Turner and Donnie (Lynn) Yoesting; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration-of-life service will be held Saturday, May 2, 11 a.m. at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Horne officiating.

Vonnis Boatright
Brunswick—Vonnis Boatright, 87, of Brunswick died May 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1939, in Alma to the late Earnest Marion “Doc” Boatright and Jessie Middleton McCarthy. She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers and two sisters.
She shared a remarkable 67 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Fred Stanley Boatright, who survives her in Brunswick. She is also survived by her daughter, Marie Veronica (Robert) Southerland Jr. of Azle, Texas; her grandchildren, Katherine Marie (Joe) Ormont of Dallas, Texas, and Michael Kenneth (Bene) Rockwood of Dallas; her six great-grandchildren, Mikayla Marie Rockwood of Leander, Texas, Ethan Michael Ormont, Leo Wesley Ormont and Quinn Elise Ormont, all of Dallas, and Luke Joseph Rockwood and Lauren Elizabeth Rockwood, both of Dallas; step-great-grandchildren, Riley Nicole Darc Angelo of Bainbridge and Caleb Michael Southerland of Bainbridge; her sister-in-law, Bearnese Boatwright (Glenn) Hasty of Jacksonville; her brother-in-law, Cecil LaDell Williams of Waverly; and several nieces and nephews.
She was well known and deeply loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and her warmth, strength, and devotion to her family will be remembered always, her family said.
A visitation will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick.
