Gerald Wayne Turner

Jesup—Gerald Wayne Turner, 88, of Jesup died on March 27, 2025.

The Pennsylvania native and former resident had lived in numerous cities, including Jesup, for the past few years. He ended his career with BE&K Construction Company as a cost engineer in 2001.

He never knew a stranger and enjoyed traveling and reading. Many considered him a “jack of all trades” with his handyman skills.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Turner; and two grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Turner of Jesup; six daughters; one son; six granddaughters; five grandsons; and numerous other relatives. 

A celebration-of-his-life service will be held at a later date.  

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Virginia James Oglesby

Jesup—Virginia “Ginger” James Oglesby, 65, of Jesup died March 27, 2025.

The Toombs County native had lived most of her life in Jesup and served as the office manager for Al’s Auto Parts for many years.

She enjoyed her dog, “Roscoe,” and spending time with her family. 

She was predeceased by her husband, John David Oglesby Jr., and her parents, Alton and Judy James.

Survivors include her sons, Nathan (Linda) Oglesby of Rincon and Jonathon Oglesby of Jesup; three grandchildren, Courtney Weinman, Jordyn and Katilyn Oglesby; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Robert Alton “Al” (Cathy) James.

Graveside services were held March 31 from Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Robert Alton James officiating.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 

 

Marcey McCollum Denison

Screven—Marcey McCollum Denison, 95, of Screven died March 28, 2025, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia and surrounded by her loving family.

The Wayne County native was a member of Ritch Missionary Baptist Church and centered her world on helping her predeceased husband of 67 years, Fentress “Fent” Denison with running T.F. Denison Farm Center Store. In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother, she loved cooking, flower gardening, and canning vegetables, jams and jellies.

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Griffis of Screven and Glenda (Homer) Scarborough of Jesup; a son, Franklin (Yvette) Denison of Screven; grandchildren, Darlene Hyers, Melissa (J.R.) Phillips, Tony Griffis, Dennis Scarborough, Brian (Abbie) Scarborough, Katrina (Marshall) Howard, Travis Denison, Cameron (Cristy) Lee; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ruth Denison of Jesup. 

Funeral services were held March 31 at Ritch Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Shon Cunningham and the Rev. Mark Ledbetter officiating. Interment  follow ed in Ritch Cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were her Ladies Sunday School Class, caregivers and Hospice of South Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.
