TJ Canady
Screven—TJ Canady, 13, of Screven died April 8, 2025, after a four-wheeler accident.
The Wayne County native attended Screven First Baptist Church and was an eighth- grader at Arthur Williams Middle School. He loved to play basketball, ride four-wheelers, exercise and play video games. He used humor in life situations and was quick-witted.
Survivors are his parents, Mark Canady of Screven and Tammy Lowery of Savannah; two sisters, Angel and Marissa Canady; a brother, Mark Joseph Canady; paternal grandparents, Cindy Anderson and Gene (Monica) Anderson, all of Richmond Hill; maternal grandparents, Tammy Newman and James (Glenda) Lowery of Savannah; an uncle, Tommy Canady (Vickie Hendrix) of Stilson; four aunts, Regina Delacruz of Jesup, Jennifer Lowery and Noni Lowery, both of Savannah and Amanda Hammond (Anthony Harrell) of Guyton; two nieces, Nevaeh Canady and Dava Lariscy; a great-uncle, Brian Swain of Jesup; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held April 13 at Screven First Baptist Church with the Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating. Interment followed in Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were friends and family.

Grace Howard Groover
Mount Pleasant—Grace Howard Groover, 81, of the Mount Pleasant community, died April 10, 2025.
The Wayne County native was a member of Akin Memorial Church and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all of her family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robby “Redd” Groover; a brother, David Howard; and a sister, Nell Proudfoot.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Robert J. “Bobby” Groover of Mount Pleasant; daughters, Lisa (Keith) Sanders and Mary Ann Sawyer, all of Brunswick; grandchildren, Reed (Alison) Sanders, Hannah Lewis and Joshua Rooks; great-grandchildren, Morgan Lewis, Olivia Herman, and twins, Lainey and Landry Owens; siblings, Ann Torkildsen of Brunswick, Donnie (Betty) Howard of Jesup, Maxie (Theresa) Howard of Lavernia, Texas, Alvin (Jackie) Howard of Jesup and Valerie Howard of Kingsland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held April 14 at Akin Memorial Church Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Bunce officiating.

Roger Dale Oglesby
Screven—Roger Dale Oglesby, 81, of Screven died April 13, 2025, after a short illness.
He was born in Glynn County to J.W. and Dorothy O’Quinn Oglesby and lived there until moving to Screven in 1995.
His hobby as a middle-aged man was horses and riding the games on his horse, “Pam.” Over the years, he served as president of the D-D Saddle Club, the Circle W Saddle Club, the Coastal Plains Association and the Georgia Federation of Saddle Clubs. He worked 28 years at LCP and five years at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in the maintenance departments. He completed the final 17 years of employment as the director of maintenance at the Wayne County Housing Authority.
He was predeceased by two brothers, J.L. Oglesby and Jerry Oglesby.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Debra Wimpey Oglesby; two daughters, Sue Lynn Taylor of Brunswick and Jami Dale Riddle of Screven; grandchildren, Marandon (Ben) Wray and Tabitha (John) Loper, all of Brunswick, Dusty Riddle of Screven, and Paris (C.J.) Rojas of Oceanside, California; great-grandchildren, Lakyn Loper and Tate Wray, Lexie and Seph Wray, all of Brunwick; one godchild, Averi Grace Sloan; a sister, Ann Nelson; a brother, Paul (Judy) Oglesby; a sister-in-law, Julia Oglesby of Brunswick; in-laws, Shannon (Nell) Wimpey, Larry (Dot) Wimpey, Patsy (Brian) Wilbur, Mary Ann (Gary) Flowers and Glen Mullis, all of Screven, and Marie (Bill) Schwarz of Ellijay.
A celebration-of-life service will be held Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at O’Quinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Mullis officiating.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services at the church.
A fish fry, one of his favorite events, will be held immediately after the church service at Heavenly Acres Arena.
His family encourages casual or Western attire for the service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation is requested at to his favorite charitable organization, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Marion Preston Bryant
Odum—Marion Preston Bryant, 81, died April 11, 2025, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida.
He was born on March 13, 1944, in Midland City, Alabama, to Frank Bryant and Ruby Preston Bryant.
He graduated from Odum High School in 1962 and soon after moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he began an apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 1205). He completed his training as a journeyman electrician and went on to dedicate more than 55 years of service to the IBEW. His work took him across the country, contributing to major projects such as Disney World, the World Trade Center, the Kennedy Space Center and many other projects.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sandra Bryant (Stephen) Wheeler and Lisa Ann Bryant; his grandchildren, Travis Stephen Wheeler and Gracie Lynne Wheeler; and his siblings, Diane (Charles) Wright, Neva Jo (James) Hutcheson, Ricky (Cherie) Bryant and Ronnie (Flora) Bryant. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was previously married to Carolyn Cascio Bryant for 30 years.
A graveside service will be held today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. in the Odum City Cemetery.
