Albert Fleming Howard

Jesup—Albert Fleming Howard, 81, of Jesup died March 27, 2020, in St. Joseph’s Hospital of a heart attack.

The Wayne County native was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church. He served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and Altamaha Baptist Church for a total of 30 years, and on Jan. 12, 2020, he was recognized by Altamaha Baptist Church for his faithful service with the honor of deacon emeritus.

He retired from Interstate Paper in Riceboro after 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Robbie Anderson Howard; infant grandson, Maddux Albert Howard; father and mother, Thomas W. and Celia Crews Howard; sister, Voncil Howard Teel; and a brother, Thomas Hardy Howard.

Survivors include his wife, Nan Peterson Howard of Fitzgerald; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Jeff Westberry, and Tina Maria and Roger Moseley; a son and daughter-in-law, Marshall Albert and Katrina Howard; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Morris Leis; a stepson, Chris Peterson; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Michael and Nicole Westberry, Joshua Howard Westberry, Joshlynn Kaydence Westberry, Brandon Neal Moseley and Marina Alexis Howard; great-grandson, Kolton Michael Wesberry; four stepgrandchildren, Carswell Leis, Laura Kate Leis, Sara Beth Peterson and Hannah Peterson; and several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside funeral services will be held in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Lee officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Altamaha Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Albert Howard, 6622 Oglethorpe Road, Jesup, GA 31545.

Kathi E. Turner

Jesup—Kathi E. Turner, 59, died March 24, 2020, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

A native and lifelong resident of Jesup, she was born on July 20, 1960.  She worked as a cook for many years in several different restaurants, including BJ’s BBQ and Maryland’s Fried Chicken.  In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and gardening, and she and her husband took great pride in their yard, working countless hours planting flowers and keeping things nice.

She will be remembered fondly by her family and friends for her kind hearted, selfless nature and how she loved “little” children and adored the time she spent with them.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ralph and Vera Smith and Annie and Red Wiggins; her sister, Melinda Wiggins; and her grandson, Dustin Gelinas.

Survivors include her husband, Donnie Turner of Jesup; a daughter, Lisa Wells, and her companion, Benny Gelinas, of Jesup; two sons, Ricky and Billy Wells, both of Jesup; a mother, Betty Jean Montgomery of Jesup; a father, James Wells; a stepfather, Donald Wiggins of Jesup; a brother, Tony Wiggins of Lynchburg, Virgina; two sisters, Cindy (Ray) Gillis of Santa Anna, Texas, and India Smith and her husband, Steve Immke, of Champaign, Illinois;  grandchildren, Taylor Lott, Rylee Wells, Parker Wells and Preston Wells; a great-grandson, Dustin Gelinas II; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended- family members.

Memorial services will be held at a later date owing to health concerns over the spread of the human coronavirus. Service times will be announced by the funeral home when they become available.
