Ralph Earl Overfield
Jesup—Ralph Earl Overfield, 80, died peacefully on Nov. 30, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
He was born on March 7, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Kenneth and Bertha Overfield. He spent his early years in Indianapolis before relocating to Pensacola, Florida, where he began to work at a parts store while attending Bible College.
He was a hard worker and soon was relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he began to manage a store. In 1987 he had the opportunity to move to Jesup, where he began working at Al’s Auto Parts. Later, he owned and operated The Parts Bin in Hinesville until he sold the store and began working in Jesup again at Al’s Auto Parts and Ivey Hutto Golf Cart Sales and Service. His organizational skills were second to none, and he devoted himself to his work 100 percent, his family said.
He was a member of the Unity Church of God and a former member of the House of Worship and Ministries. In his spare time, he loved drag-racing his 1964 Ford Fairlane and was a member of the National Hot Rod Association for many years.
In addition to his parents, his two daughters, Marsha Overfield and Jennifer L. Kramer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Danita Overfield of Jesup; three children, Cindy (Michael) Hively of Claxton, Bryan K. (Danielle) Overfield of Jesup and Ruby J. (Jim) Sterling of Jacksonville, Florida; a son-in-law, James Kramer of Jesup; six grandchildren, Jessica Kramer, Joshua Humphrey, Danielle Humphrey, Tiffany Ratliff, James Sterling, Stephanie Sterling and Heather Kinlaw; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended-family members.
Funeral services were held Dec. 4 at Unity Church of God with Bishop Calvin Anderson officiating.

Betty Evelyn
Hutcheson
Jesup—Betty Evelyn Hutcheson, 77, died peacefully on Nov. 27, 2024, at Hospice of South Georgia surrounded by her loving family.
A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, she was born on Sept. 24, 1947, to the late Jessie Thomas Freeman and Odessa Potter Freeman. She worked as a school bus driver with the Wayne County school system, where she retired after many years of faithful service. She was a longtime member of the Crossroads Church of God. She was always a giving person, willing to help anybody she could. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her beloved family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jason David Hutcheson; a brother, Marvin D. Freeman; and an infant brother, Alvin Freeman.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Jack Hutcheson of Jesup; two sons, Dewayne (Joanie) Hutcheson of Odum and Darrell (Amanda) Hutcheson of Jesup; eight grandchildren, Amanda Hutcheson, Amber Archibald, Brandon Hutcheson, Darrell Hutcheson Jr., Alexis Westberry, Sam Hutcheson, Jadan Manning and Justin Hutcheson; numerous great-grandchildren; and extended-family members.
Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Spring Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Justin, Brandon, Darrell Jr. and Sam. Honorary pallbearers were her former coworker bus drivers from the Wayne County school system.

Lamanda Kay Nix
Jesup—Lamanda Kay Nix, 56, of Jesup died Nov. 28, 2024, in the Hospice of South Georgia Inpatient Unit.
She was a 1987 graduate of Reids-ville High School, where she was a part of FHA, 4-H, the annual staff, the Y-Club and the flag corps. She shortly started her career at Georgia State Prison and later transferred to Wayne State Prison and Long State Prison, where she retired with more than 20 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend and, most important, Granny to her “little Popsicle”—Beckett.
She will be remembered as being selfless, giving and FUN. Although she fought a chronic illness, she was sure to never let it steal her joy, and she extended that joy to everyone around her. She enjoyed cooking Southern meals, making her own dance moves, and spreading her contagious laugh to her family and friends. Family was important to her, and you knew that from just being around her.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Linda Woods Collins of Reidsville; a sister, Mary Booth Harden of Milledgeville; and a father-in-love, Johnny Virlyn Nix of Jesup.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Donald Virlyn Nix of Jesup; her stepfather, Aaron Collins of Reids-ville; a mother-in-love, Edna Nix Arnold of Perry; two daughters, Brandi (Bailey) Thornton of Odum and Brittney (Pierce) Middlebrooks of Jesup; a grandson, Beckett Thornton, whom she loved dearly; a brother, James (Deidra) Corbitt of Reidsville; two sisters, Renee (Dale) White of Reidsville and Vanda Wilsey of Jesup; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Susan (Jimmy) Parker of
Glennville.
Funeral services were held Dec. 1 from Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Vann Dempsey officiating. Interment followed at Odum City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Bailey Thornton, Pierce Middlebrooks, Jimmy Parker, Joey Miller, Allen Parker, Jeff Horton. An inactive pallbearer was Norman Miller. Honorary pallbearers were members of her 1987 graduating class.
