Katharyn “Kathy” Ann Flowers Teston

Brunswick—Katharyn “Kathy” Ann Flowers Teston, 67, of Bruns-wick died Jan. 17, 2022.

The Wayne County native had lived in Glynn County for many years and was a secretary for Coastal Roofing Company. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Downing and Vera Flowers; her sisters, Sandra Drury, Vera Stalling and Dale Watson; and her brothers, Hubert Flowers and Ricky Flowers.

Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years, Alfred Teston of Brunswick; a son, Kevin Teston of Brunswick; grandchildren, Kimberly and Brandon Teston; a great-granddaughter; and sisters, Carol Meadows of Jesup and Julia Nabb of Waynesville.

Graveside funeral services were held Jan. 19 in George Cemetery with Pastor Mindy Ingram officiating.

The family said it would like to give a special “thank you” to Amy Newton and Ronnie McIntosh for the “wonderful” care that was given to her and the entire family.

Deborah “Debbie” Anderson Johnson

Bostwick—Deborah “Debbie” Anderson Johnson, 64, of Bostwick and formerly of Jesup died Jan. 14, 2022 after an extended illness.

The Wayne County native was a Baptist and a former member of Anderson Drive Baptist Church. Her newspaper career began at The Press-Sentinel and then continued at the Charleston Herald. She retired with USA Today in Atlanta.

She loved the lake life, where she would sit on her balcony sipping her coffee and watch the birds on her feeders in the mornings before getting in her boat and fishing for the rest of the day. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mickey Anderson, and her sister, Tina Anita Anderson.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Joseph Johnson of Bostwick; three sons, Trey (Ashley) Johnson of Bostwick, Joseph (Lynn) Johnson Jr. of the Atlanta area and Steven Johnson of the Atlanta area; mother, Annette Anderson of Jesup; sister, Tempie (Joe) Davis of Jesup; six grandchildren, Griffin, Landon, Callie, Andrew, Christopher and Courtney; niece, Miki (Brooks) Blanton of Screven; and nephew, Jordan (Livvy) Davis of Baxley.

Graveside funeral services were held Jan. 17 in Jesup City Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Anderson officiating.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Ruth Wears Kutrufis

Jesup—Ruth Wears Kutrufis, 90, of Jesup died Jan. 16, 2022.

The West Virginia native had lived in Wayne County most of her adult life. The homemaker loved to read, especially mysteries and nonfiction books. Her love of history always led her to Civil War stories. She visited flower nurseries often and loved to make her yard beautiful. Shopping was also a favorite pastime. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the “apples of her eye.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kutrufis, and her sister, Doris Hope.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie (Brent) Williams of Brunswick; two sons, Charley (Loretta) Kutrufis of Jesup and Terry (Amy) Kutrufis of Eulonia; three grandchildren, Kelly (Eddie) Lee of Brunswick, Katelyn (Ryan) Aldridge of South Carolina and Jake Kutrufis of Savannah; two great-grandchildren, Emry and Emmett Aldridge; and an adopted daughter-in-love, Kim Mosley Wages of Atlanta.

Memorial services will be held by the family.

William “Dwight” Bargeron

Jesup—William “Dwight” Bargeron, 71, of Jesup died Jan. 17, 2022.

The Wayne County native was a retired millright and enjoyed sitting on his front porch viewing nature.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Little Bargeron; parents, Julia Irene Driggers and Joe Reynolds Bargeron; grandson, Ayden Eli Withrow; and siblings, Ruby, Laverne, Estelle, Buddy, Matt and Jerry.

Survivors include daughters, Michelle Bargeronand Jamie “Gene” Perrego, both of Jesup, and Amber (Daniel) Tyre of Screven; sisters, Julia Ann Waters of Fort Valley, Thelma Jackson of Americus, Norma Woods Willis of Jesup, Frances Austin of Ludowici; brother, Joe (Charlotte) Bargeron of Panama City, Florida; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Mullis officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Oaks Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be family.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. prior to services at the Rinehart and Sons Chapel.

Tonya Godwin Ward

Jesup—Tonya Godwin Ward, 57, died suddenly on Jan. 17, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, she was born on March 25, 1964. She was a graduate of Wayne County High School in the Class of 1982 and later owned and operated the Rose Cottage Wedding Chapel for more than 20 years.

She loved the Lord. She was a member of O’Quinn Baptist Church in her younger days and later joined Screven Church of God, where she worshiped for the past 20 years.

She was blessed with the “gift to gab.” She never met a stranger, and she was always willing to go the extra mile to do something special for someone.

She loved art and crafts and making beautiful flowers for the weddings she helped to plan. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with the ones she loved, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

Her father, Earl Godwin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Ricky Ward; her mother, Alinda Yarbrough Godwin; two sons, Phillip (Maranda) Ward and and Joshua (Vianey) Ward; one daughter, Sonya (Rob) Royal; two brothers, James (Teri) Godwin and Kenny (Laura) Godwin; eight grandchildren, Austin, Bryson, Jayde, Tripp, G-Money, Emma, Lilly and Nolan, all of Screven; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at O’Quinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Reneau and Gerald Greenlee officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Austin Ward, Jacob Godwin, Michael Heiser, David Manning, Aaron Reneau and Bryson Ward.
