Jerryll Ann “Jerri” Guthrie Collins

Jesup—Jerryll Ann “Jerri” Guthrie Collins, 82, of Jesup died peacefully Sept. 30, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She received the best of care from Hospice of South Georgia, her family said.

She loved being a wife, mother and “Mimi.” She was a homemaker and cherished the job of caring for her home and family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, growing flowers and listening to Elvis Presley. She also treasured family vacations at Fernandina Beach, collecting seashells, soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean.

She was born in Brunswick on Dec. 29, 1942. The Guthrie family moved to Manor in 1947, and she graduated from Manor High School in 1960. She was voted “most beautiful” senior superlative. After attending South Georgia College in Douglas, she married Glynn Collins, the love of her life. She lived in Wayne County for the past 60 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lewis D. “Buck” Guthrie and Laura Belle Harris Guthrie; her brother, Lewis D. Guthrie Jr.; her husband, Glynn E. Collins; and her grandson, Brandon Lee Collins.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Renee Collins of Brunswick and Kipp and Jenny Collins of Jesup; a daughter, Julie Collins Roberson of Jesup; and four grandchildren, Hunter and Laura Kate Roberson, Harris (Kacey) Collins and Alex Collins.

Graveside funeral services were held Oct. 6 at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick with the Rev. John A. Stoddard and the Rev. Fred Anderson officiating. Active pallbearers were Woog Roberson, Ryan Madray, Kevin Moxley, David Paul, Shaun O’Quinn, Tim Sloan and Ian Greene.

Faye Duhon Waters

Odum—Faye Duhon Waters, 80, of Jesup died Oct. 1, 2025, at her residence.

The Louisiana native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She went to Odum High School and Wayne County High School and then continued her education at Brunswick College, pursuing a master cosmetology degree.

Her community service involved being a past member of the Odum Garden Club. She was a family-centered person who loved her husband, daughter, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Shopping was a passion, but spending time with her family was her most important purpose.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Waters, and her sister, Frances Bland. 

Survivors include a daughter, Melisa (Eric) Mallard of Jesup; granddaughters, Erica (Jordan) Anderson of Jesup and Brittney (Brenton) Fowler of Cartersville; great-grandchildren, Eli and Silas; a brother, Ray (Sue) Duhon of Jesup; a brother-in-law, Gene Bland of Jesup; a brother-in-law, Hank (Mary Jean) Waters of Victoria, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Will Bacon and Priest Eder Estrada officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Jerry Emmett Long

Jesup—Jerry Emmett Long, 90, of Jesup died on Oct. 1, 2025 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Pierce County native lived most of his life in Wayne County and was an active member and former worship leader at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church. The retired ITT Rayonier employee enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Wayne County High School Yellow Jacket baseball teams.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Judy Warnock Long; his granddaughter, Brianna Pearl Long; and his brother, J.W. Long.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherri (Pastor Danny) Webster of Brunswick, Anna (Fred Diehl) Franklin of Jesup and Christina (Clifford) Hartnett of Smyrna, Delaware; a son, Steven (Amy) Long of Screven; and a sister-in-love, Betty Davis of Jesup.

Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Tim Bush and Bishop Ray Worley officiating. Interment followed in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.

Virginia Sullivan Copeland

Odum—Virginia Sullivan Copeland, 88, of Odum died on Oct. 5, 2025 under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Chatham County native had lived in Wayne County most of her adult life and was a member of the Odum Baptist Church. She spent the beginning of her career with Manhattan Shirt Factory and retired with Atlanta Gas Company. She enjoyed working puzzles and reading, and her most favorite pastime was her “small dog breeding program.”

She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Ellis Shannon Copeland. 

Survivors include a son, Ronnie (Pam Burke) Copeland; grandchildren, Kevin (Erica) Copeland, Kyle (Ashly) Copeland and Korey (Shaina) Copeland, all of Odum; stepchildren, Kenny (Rita) Copeland, Huey (Jennifer) Copeland and Shanda (Chester) Thompson; several step-grandchildren, Bess, Dallas, Steve, Cole and Cale; and extended family. 

Graveside funeral services were held Oct. 8 from Odum Cemetery with the Rev. David Bohannon and cousin Robert Sullivan officiating. Interment was in the Odum City Cemetery.

Gabriel Hugh Gilchrist

Odum—Gabriel Hugh Gilchrist, 51, died suddenly on Sept. 30, 2025.

A resident of Odum for the past 29 years, “Gabe,” as he was affectionately known by many, was born on April 4, 1974 in Columbus to the late Gary and Patty Martin Gilchrist. He moved around frequently with his family in his younger years, graduating from Lakeside Preparatory School in Eufaula, Alabama, in the Class of 1992.

He worked for more than 23 years with Rayonier Advanced Materials, eventually working his way up to the position of shift supervisor for the pulp mill. He was humble and hardworking, generous and kind, and was always willing to lend a hand to a person in need, his family said. He was a longtime member of Flint Branch Baptist Church, where he learned to love his neighbor as himself, following the teachings of Jesus Christ. He was a hardcore University of Georgia Bulldog fan who enjoyed fishing, trying new restaurants and rocking in his favorite rocking chair, but his favorite times were spent with the ones he loved the most, his beloved family.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Amy Horton Gilchrist of Odum; three children, Mallary (Rodney) Tyre of Odum, Logan (Bailey) Gilchrist of Perry, Oklahoma and Gabriel Jace Gilchrist of Odum; five grandchildren, Maddux Mosley, Gabriele Tyre, Avary James Tyre, Camden Tyre and Sadie Gilchrist; siblings, Jason (Tracy) Gilchrist of Phenix City, Alabama, Jake (Bailey) Gilchrist of Greensboro, North Carolina, Nichole Gilchrist of Florala, Alabama, and James Gilchrist of North Carolina; his very special mother-in-law, Sheila Horton of Odum; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at Flint Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Hickox officiating. Interment followed in Odum City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jason Gilchrist, Jake Gilchrist, Patrick Manning, Willie Priester, Jim Henderson and Charles Roberson. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Rayonier Advanced Materials.

Donald Ray Landon

Jesup—Donald Ray Landon, 72, of Jesup died peacefully on Oct. 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1952, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to God, his family and work.

He spent the greater part of his career farming or driving a truck for Mackenzie Tank Lines, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, loyalty and dedication. Outside of work, he was known for his kindness, steady presence and sense of humor. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

He will be remembered for his dedication to God, his deep love for his family, and the many lives he touched through his compassion and integrity, his family said.

He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Vicki Landon, who survives him. He was known as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose witty and fun-loving spirit, unwavering love, and quiet strength touched all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Tori (Shawn) Carroll, Amy Beasley and Michael (Rhonda) Landon, all of Jesup; grandchildren, Nathan (Alanna) Campbell, Makayla (Andrew) Hurst, Makenzie (Simon) Fraser, Shelbi (Patrick) Howard, Jonathan Landon, Emily Carroll, Kase Beasley and Easton Carroll; great-grandchildren, Levi and LeytonCampbell and Dawsyn Hurst; his sister, Janet (Parnell) Aldridge; and several nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.

Memorial/graveside service will be held at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church cemetery in Madray Springs at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, with the Rev. Randy Pruitt officiating.
