Fire’s grip finally weakens, still threat

The Brantley County Highway 82 fire that began last week is now reported as largely under control, though emergency officials warn that things still could change rapidly with unexpected weather changes.

Early voting begins strong for primary

Early voting for Georgia’s May 19 General Primary and Nonpartisan Election began in Wayne County Monday.As of the end of the day Tuesday, 264 local voters had cast ballots in person in the election.In addition, 18 absentee ballots came in over the first two days of the week.

Glynn doctor, boyfriend die in murder/suicide in Wayne County

What is believed to be a murder/suicide on Buffalo Road, in eastern Wayne County near Everett, was reported Friday by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Marsha Certain, 69, and Tracey Sanna were reported deceased in the house at 1131 Buffalo Road Thursday evening.

First phase of ag complex underway

The road to a multipurpose county agricultural complex has been long. The road to a covered complex will be even longer. Work on the site is already underway off Sunset Boulevard—not far from the agricultural offices on the other side of the road.

Vernon Dwight Drury Jesup--Vernon Dwight Drury, 66, of Jesup died April 14, 2022, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Albany native was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran, serving a tour in the Iraq War.
