Aletha Purcell

Jesup—Aletha Purcell, 100, died May 31, 2024.

She was the eldest member of Altamaha Baptist Church and worked for the Wayne County school system for more than 20 years. She was happiest when she was at home with her family and supporting all of their activities.

She was preceded in death by her son, Cecil Edwin Purcell Jr., and her husband of 50 years, Cecil Edwin Purcell Sr. 

Survivors include a son, Ken Purcell; a grandson, Drew Purcell; granddaughters, Molly Franks and Kaleigh Godfrey; A great-granddaughter, Maizie Godfrey; and many extended family.

Funeral services were held June 4 at Altamaha Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Richardson officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Donna T. Johnson

Jesup—Donna Teston Johnson, 56, of Jesup died May 31, 2024.

The Wayne County native was a Baptist. She was a 1986 Wayne County High School graduate and a Valdosta State College graduate, receiving a degree in elementary education. She taught in the Liberty County school system for several years.

She enjoyed her pets, friends and music.

She was predeceased by her father, Dewitt Teston.

Survivors include her son, Austin Johnson of Jesup; her mother, Una Aspinwall Teston of Jesup; a brother, Gary Teston of Jesup; and stepchildren, Britney Johnson and Christopher M. (Bubba) Johnson, both of Nahunta.

Funeral services were held June 5 from Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Bob Richardson officiating. Interment was in the Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her family and friends.
