Etwendel Blanton Fennel

Odum—Etwendel Blanton Fennel, 73, of Odum died Dec. 6, 2022.

The Wayne County native was of the Christian faith and a homemaker. She enjoyed working for several years with the Georgia Forestry Commission, and upon retiring in 2010, she enjoyed her title of “Nanny” to her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Eva Blanton; a sister, Emma Lee Sweat; and brothers, Hubert and Larry Blanton.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Gary Fennel of Odum; a daughter, Pam (Elbert) Madray of Odum; granddaughters, Heather (Ben) Hockensmith of Odum and Dr. Victoria (Michael Paul Rainwater) Madray of North Augusta, South Carolina; two great-granddaughters, Haven Hockensmith and Remi Rainwater; two sisters, Evone (Billy) Riggs and Latrelle (Dennis) Durrence, all of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 9 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Dickie Waters officiating. Interment followed in Red Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Sara G. Lord

Screven—Sara G. Lord, 89, of Screven died Nov. 27, 2022. 

The Wayne County native was a member of Screven First Baptist Church and the Ready Sunday School Class. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord when she was a member at Ritch Missionary Baptist Church.

She was store manager for several companies but enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening in her free time.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jones Lord, and three sisters, Jonette Tyre, Judith Hatcher and Joy Mathis.

Survivors include three daughters, Victoria Barette of Land of Lakes, Florida, Sherry Lord of Jacksonville, Florida, and Debbie Lord of Screven; a son, William Gerald (Peggy) Lord of Walterboro, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Celebration-of-life services will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Mark Ledbetter and Durwood Miller officiating. Private interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Wilma Jane Fleck Spangler

Jesup—Wilma Jane Fleck Spangler, 74, of Jesup died Dec. 9, 2022.

She was one of the former owners of the Something Old, Something New retail store and a caterer. Some favorite pastimes were country music, dancing, breakfast foods, Diet Pepsi, crafting and gardening.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James Fleck and Maxine King, and two granddaughters, Morgan Olivia Watkins and Cait Lynn Watkins.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Simon) Allaway and Marsha Watkins; a son, Rex (Marci) Striplin; grandchildren, Cassi Allaway, Dylan John, Sarah (Tyler) Strouse, Krystle (Kirk) Churchill, Kody (Jesse) Striplin, Kameron (Beth) Striplin, Mariah Striplin, Aleilah Striplin, Britney (Robert) Harriet and Madison Watkins; great-grandchildren, Alice John, Evelyn Strouse, Peyton Striplin, Rachel Churchill, Roger Churchill, Rory Churchill, Nevile Striplin, Maria Harriet and Sebastion Harriet; and her “fur babies,” Sassy and Tiny.

Memorial services will be handled by the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia Building Fund, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.
