Sheryl Ann Goode

Ludowici—Sheryl Ann Goode, 55, died Sept. 19, 2023, in Ludowici.

Born in Savannah, she lived in Florida for several years and in Long County for the past 21 years. She was a former corrections officer in Florida but worked mostly as a retail sales clerk and at O’Reilly Auto Parts in Glennville for the past year.

Her hobbies included reading, camping, fishing and raising puppies.  She attended Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Scotty Guastella, and her parents, Wildon McKenzie and Martha Barker.

She is survived by Ronnie Goode of Ludowici; Lindsey Guastella of Crystal River, Florida; and a grandson, Michael Link of Crystal River, Florida.

Funeral services were held Sept. 24 at Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Brian Smith officiating. 

Burial followed in Middleton Memorial Cemetery.

Robert D. Clark

Hinesville—Officer Robert D. Clark, 42, died Oct.1, 2023 in Glennville.

He was born on June 19, 1981, in Fort Stewart. He led a remarkable life filled with selflessness, bravery and a commitment to justice, according to his family.

He worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he had a wide array of interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He had a particular fondness for strategy games that allowed him to exercise his sharp intellect.

Additionally, he shared an extraordinary bond with animals. His beloved 17 dogs, six cats, chickens and ducks were his cherished companions.

To those who knew him best, he will be remembered not only for his exceptional professional achievements but also for being a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. His kind spirit brightened the lives of everyone around him, his family said, and, his warm-hearted nature served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin H. Clark, and two sisters, Glenda F. Wood and Shirley L. Clark-Groft.

Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth H. Connolly; two brothers, Marvin H. Clark Jr. of Ohio and John M. Clark of Ludowici; four sisters, Deborah Clark of Ludowici, Caroline Walrath of Moultrie, Jeanie Ray of Tifton and Mary Clark of Ludowici; nephews, Michael Barnett, Maverick Ware, Joey and Joshua Walrath, and William and Kyle Wood; and nieces, Maggie and Lucy Clark, Abigail and Piper Clark, Elizabeth Barnett, Kayla Justice, Mia, Taylor Groft, and Kendall Ray.

The funeral mass was held Oct. 6 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Hinesville. Honors were rendered following the service.

David Robert Ehrlich

Jesup—David Robert Ehrlich, 63, died Oct. 5, 2023.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1959, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Herman G. and Rita (Rosenthal) Ehrlich.

Upon graduation in 1977 from Classical High School in Springfield, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served for 14 years in the military in transportation. He left the service in 1992. He then enrolled in Columbus State University, first securing a degree in sociology and then returning soon after to earn teaching certification in special education. He was a special education teacher at the high school level in the Columbus school system, leaving teaching in 2017.

Wanting to be nearer to his children, Jessica and Jason, who had both located in southern Georgia, he moved to Jesup in 2018. He had become very active with American Legion Post No. 311, serving as its treasurer and historian. He was involved in organizing the Veterans Day Parade each year, as well as a number of other community projects that benefited the area.

Cars had always been a big part of his life, and he continued to follow that interest in Jesup by becoming a member of the Altamaha Classic Cruisers and exhibiting his prized vintage BMW in its shows.

He also had a lifelong love of reading, particularly books about United States history. He followed current events closely and always had a well-informed point of view.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica, of Jesup; a son, Jason, of Statesboro; a brother, Mark, of Rhode Island; and four grandchildren, Annabelle, Cassady, Ashley and Matthew.

Interment was held in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville on Oct. 11.

Junior “Bobby” Blanton

Jesup—Junior “Bobby” Blanton, 83, of Jesup died Oct. 4, 2023.

The Wayne County native and 23-year Hazlehurst resident was a member of Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. He was the owner of Blanton Barber and Style Shop. His motto was, “We need your head in our business.” He served Wayne and Jeff Davis counties.

He loved mechanical work, gardening and visiting relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Luease Fulton Blanton; and siblings, Lloyd Blanton and Barbara Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Ruby Miller Blanton of Hazlehurst; three sons, Jeff (Liza) Blanton of Jesup, Ken Blanton of Hines-ville and Timothy Blanton of Hinesville; a stepson, John Clark of Young Harris; a sister, Tera (Eddie) Privett of Newnan; a brother, Robert (Suzette) Blanton of McComb, Mississippi; a sister-in-law, Alice Blanton of Jesup; 15 grandchildren;  25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Tyrone Hutchinson officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery. Active pallbearers were his family.
