Gerana Manning Chancellor

Jesup—Gerana Manning Chancellor, 77, of Jesup died August 20, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and always being there for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Chancellor, and her grandson, Joseph Stac Horton.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Don) Combs and Teresa (Ralph) Swailes, all of Jesup, and Fenecia Carter Saxon of Brunswick; a son, Cecil (Angela) Chancellor of Bristol; a sister, Omar Manning of Jesup; brothers, Herman (Kim) Manning and Larry (Zelda) Manning, all of Jesup; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and other extended-family members.

Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Joe Manning officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her family.

“Heather” Nichole Flowers

Jesup—“Heather” Nichole Flowers, 38, of Jesup died Aug. 19, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The Wayne County native attended Victory Tabernacle Church of God and was a 2002 graduate of Wayne County High School. She was a beautiful, independent mother, daughter, sister and friend to many, her family said.

Survivors include a son, Weston Lee Shaw, whom she loved fiercely, of Jesup; parents, Tammy and Mack “Bo” Flowers of Jesup; sisters, Brittany (Benjamin) Mason, Deanna (Kyle) Mosley all of Jesup; aunts and uncles; and extended relatives who were a close part of her life.

Private graveside services are being held by her family in Manningtown Cemetery with Charlie Hinson speaking.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Mary Alice Lewis Rogers

Jesup—Mary Alice Lewis Rogers, 79, of Jesup died Aug. 22, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Ladies Auxillary and was a 1961 graduate of Jesup High School. She was a former co-owner of Duffie’s Inc. and enjoyed her early life as a Jesup Jaycette, serving as past president. She was an avid University of Georgia Bulldog fan as well as a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Most of her life was spent caring for her family and being with them at sports events and saltwater fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  W.C. Rogers II, and her parents, Slim Lewis and Grace Grantham Lewis Reddish and Tince Reddish. 

Survivors include two daughters, Daphne (Harry Slone) Manning and Shani (Herschell) Hires, all of Jesup; a son, Clint (Tara) Rogers of Waveland Mississippi; a sister, Susan Sutton of Jesup; brothers, Grant (Tammy) Lewis and Jeff (Windi) Lewis, all of Jesup; grandchildren, Whitney, Kailey (Tyler), Chelsea (Lucian), Blake (Heather), Cody, Hattie (Joe), Brooke (Derek), C.J. (Katelyn), Chase (Emily), and Mary Grace (Ethan); 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Leah (Kyle) Jones and Mitch (Crissy) Sutton; and several step-siblings.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. from Rogers Cemetery, 150 W. Finland Street, Jesup, GA 31546 with Father Nathan Wilson officiating. Active pallbearers will be family.

Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bessie G. Surrency Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 834, Jesup, GA 31598 or to St. Paul Episcopal Church, 745 S. Palm Street, Jesup, GA 31546.

Dewitt Teston

Jesup—Dewitt Teston, 81, of Jesup died Aug. 15, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of Altamaha Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The family man was also a preacher for the nursing home ministry for over 40 years.  He also filled in the church pulpit when he was needed.

He could be considered a “bird nerd,” as he loved to feed and watch the various kinds of birds in his yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Mary Ellen Teston; a sister, Mary Louise; and brothers, Kenny and Jimmy.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Una Aspinwall Teston of Jesup; a daughter, Donna Johnson, and son, Gary Teston, both of Jesup; a grandson, Austin Johnson; a sister, Faye (Roger) Thornton of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Aug. 18 at Rinehart Chapel with Pastor Bob Richardson officiating.   Interment followed in Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were his church friends.

Margaret Westberry

Monroe—Margaret Westberry, 71, of Monroe, died Aug. 14, 2023, at Piedmont Health in Monroe.

She was born Oct. 29, 1951, in Wayne County to the late Euel Wesley Phillips and the late Lona Bell Waters Phillips. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a seamstress.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Westberry.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbie Rosevear of Monroe, and a grandson, Nelson Blalock of Monroe.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Friendship Baptist Church in Wayne County with the Rev. Kevin Johnson and the Rev. Chris Ogden officiating.

Active pallbearers were Jared Flowers, Javan Flowers, Rodney Phillips, Jeffery Griffin, Charles Mimbs and Nelson Blalock.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Lisa Cudd Holt

Mount Carmel, Tennessee—Lisa Cudd Holt died peacefully on Aug. 19, 2023, with her loving husband, Rod, and her two dogs by her side.

She was born on May 9, 1963, in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

She met her husband, Rod, in 2006 and married in 2007. They resided in Mount Carmel, Tennessee. Lisa worked for Tidewater Transit from 2007 to 2021.

If you had the privilege of knowing her, you knew how strong her love was for sports. She was indoctrinated from an early age by her parents to love the Clemson Tigers. Every Saturday in the fall, her home would proudly display her orange and white tiger paw flag. The love she had for her family and Clemson Tigers was beyond compare.

Her smile would light up a room, and that was always visible when she was watching her son, Ryan, at a baseball game, cheering on her granddaughter, Reese, in softball; snuggled up on the couch with her two dogs, Ben and Jerry; or just spending time with her loving husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby “B.R.” and Phyliss Cutts Cudd.

Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Rod Holt; her son, Ryan Davis: her granddaughter, Reese, and Reese’s mother, Cindy Davis; brothers, Randy (Andrea) Cudd; Ronnie (Maria) Cudd; Mike (Ashley) Cudd; and nephews and nieces, Justin, Amanda, Abby, Eric, Austin, Adam and Merritt.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Ballad Health Women’s Cancer Center related to patient assistance and oncology.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Dr. Bartow David Parkerson Jr.

Athens—Dr. Bartow David Parkerson Jr. of Athens died Aug. 12, 2023.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1935, to Sadie Ivey and Bartow David Parkerson Sr.

He was the epitome of love and devotion, a cherished husband, father and grandfather, his family said.

After graduating from Eastman High School, he attended the University of Georgia, where he joined the Sigma Nu Fraternity and graduated with his pharmacy degree. Afterwards, he answered the call of duty and proudly served in the Army, and it was during this time he met his lifelong partner and soulmate, Amelia Perry, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. He then earned a doctorate of dentistry from Emory University. After graduation from Emory, he set up residency in Jesup, where he established a thriving dental practice for 35 years.

He was a leader in several associations: Jaycees, Rotary Club and an active member in the First United Methodist Church.

Upon his “retirement,” he embarked on a new chapter on the shores of Lake Oconee. There, he pursued his passions for golf, tennis and meaningful social interactions. His devotion to the Georgia Bulldogs and unwavering support for his beloved team was legendary. A season- ticket holder for years, he bled red and black.

Beyond his accomplishments, Bartow possessed an innate charisma that drew people to him. A man of unwavering integrity, he was a beacon of generosity, always extending his hand to help others, according to his family.

He was predeceased by his son, Perry Parkerson.

Survivors include his wife, Amelia Perry Parkerson; a son, David (Shannon) Parkerson; a daughter, Ivey (Tommy) Parker; and grandchildren, Cody Parker, Alex Parker, Jordan Parkerson and Lauren Parkerson.

A memorial service was held Aug. 16 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson’s Research at give.michaeljfox.org or to the Ashford Memorial Methodist Church, P.O. Box 344, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
