Chad Douglas Hall

Jesup—Chad Douglas Hall died June 15, 2023.

He was described by family and friends as a “bear of a man with a heart to match. The kindest of his clan. Adored by everyone who ever met or knew him. Revered by his son, nieces and nephews. Loved by his parents, brothers and sisters. A person who worked for others, gave for others, loved for others.”

He was a large personality with a zest for fun in life that was unmatched. He was an avid fisherman (although not very good at it) and enjoyed hunting, not for the pursuit, but for the camaraderie of his friends and family. He enjoyed sharing stories about his students, loving and hanging out with his “awesome” son “Jack Rabbit,” teasing his sisters-in-law, and “super-hero” fighting his nieces and nephews. He was considered, “the life of the party, the love of many, the envy of some.”

“He was a man who lived life to the fullest and got every bit of the good out of it he could. Many in life go through the motions. He did not. He lived,” his family said.

He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and grew up in Watkinsville, where he was a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Oconee County High School in 1997 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University.

After graduation, he was hired by the Georgia Wildlife Agency to live on Ossabaw Island and remove as many hogs as possible to protect nesting sea turtles. The few remaining hogs are still in fear when they hear his name, and the increased numbers of surviving sea turtles worship his legend. After three years he joined the Wayne County school system as a construction teacher, where he was a positive influence on all of his students and fellow teachers. Survivors include his parents, Doug and Judy Hall; his son, Jack Reyna; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Parker and Kim Hall and Jody and Sally Hall; and five nieces and nephews, Alison Grace, Brody Nelson, Tulley Ann, Travis Pratt and Trapper James Hall.

His family said, “The world lost a good man. The Angels and everyone up there got a good ’un, and Heaven got better. Praise God!”

The word “Momma” was tattooed on his arm as a tribute to the love he had for her.

A memorial service will be held July 8 at 11 a.m. at Hahira Community Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
