Cornelia Jeanette Kasperian

Ludowici—Cornelia Jeanette Kasperian, 76, died April 7, 2024, at Coastal Manor in Ludowici and under the care of GHC Hospice.

Born in Montezuma, she lived in Long County most of her life. She retired from civil service as a housing inspector. She worked as a food service supervisor with Smith State Prison in Glenn-ville and at Kroger in Hinesville for several years.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and a member of First Baptist Ludowici.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. and Mary Lucy Stafford, and her grandson, Andrew Kasperian III.

Survivors include her sons, Andy (Lisa) Kasperian Jr., Timothy (Drucilla) Kasperian and Eric (Tammy) Kasperian all of Ludowici; brothers, George (Lynne) Stafford of Jesup, Harold (Fran) Stafford of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Gary Stafford of Ludowici; grandchildren, Matt, Morgan, Travis, Sierra, Gage and Parker; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held April 9 at Howard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Baggs Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Chance Crighton, Parker Kasperian, Gage Kasperian, Travis Kasperian, Matt Kasperian and Josh Stafford.

Donna Altman Blackmon

Jesup—Donna Altman Blackmon, 75, died peacefully on April 11, 2024, at Altamaha Health and Rehabilitation under the care of Hospice of South Georgia after an extended illness.

A resident of Darien for many years, she was born on Feb. 12, 1949, in Brunswick to the late, Harold Jefferson Altman and Kola Grace Altman.

She was employed with BellSouth for many years until her retirement. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping and giving gifts to those she loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Possum” Blackmon, and her siblings, Debra Altman, Ann Mizell and Randy Altman.

Survivors include her son, Craig Blackmon of Darien; two brothers, David Altman of Brunswick and Jeff (Susan) Altman of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Brieana Blackmon and Damiyen Blackmon; and a  host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Private interment services will be held in Rob Lewis Cemetery in Raybon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the National MPS Society, 1007 Slater Road No. 220, Durham, NC 27703.

Pamela Brown

Jesup—Pamela Lee Williams Brown, 61, died peacefully on April 3, 2024, at home surrounded and cared for by her loving family and a few close friends. A great source of help was provided by Hospice of South Georgia, her family said.

A resident of Jesup for the past 18 years, she was born on Nov. 17, 1962, in Groton, New York. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with the ones she loved the most, her family and especially her grandchildren.

She worked in retail sales, owning and operating several businesses while continuing to be a devoted member of the American Legion Post No. 311 Auxiliary. She attended church at New Life Church in Jesup.

She enjoyed sewing, designing clothing and long chats over coffee in her spare time. She  shared her talents with others over the years, giving sewing lessons, and also enjoyed a host of outdoor activities, including fishing and camping.

Her father, Donald Williams, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her loving husband, Allen Brown; children, Michael, Tara, Lanis, William, Kandace, Josh, Chase, Shawn, Kelsey and Kirsten (Perry); her mother, Donna; sisters, Lori (Maurice) and Penny (Al) and Shanna; brothers, Daniel (Jen), Steven (Kelly) and Stacey (Donna); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family as well as a large group of friends.

Funeral services were held April 8 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Drawdy officiating.

Interment followed in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glenn-ville.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Sharon Garcia

Jesup—Sharon Garcia, 63, died peacefully on April 10, 2024, at Altamaha Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Jesup, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A resident of Jesup for the past 27 years, she was born on Jan. 8, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois. She worked in the food service industry for many years at McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Krystal and Hardee’s, where she advanced herself to the position of manager.

She loved animals, especially dogs, and also enjoyed working crossword puzzles in her spare time. She always kept in close contact with her family to make sure things were being taken care of as they should be.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwaine Adams; her brother, Henry Garcia; and her grandson, Joshua Coleman Jr.

Survivors include her five children, Nicole Garcia (Arturo) Pascual of Chicago, Nicholas Garcia of Chicago, Frank Garcia of Brunswick, John Garcia of Jesup and Tina (Brandon) Wilkins of Jesup; parents, Salvador Garcia and Amelia Pedroza Garcia, both of Chicago; five siblings, Laura, Salvador, Norma, Lisa and Rita Garcia, all of Chicago; grandchildren, Victoria Pascual, Jonathan Worth, Shaylynn Waher, Destiny Garcia, Elizabeth Garcia, Jeremiah Garcia, Olivia Garcia, Jessiah Wilkins, A’lyric Wilkins and Jada Wilkins; great-grandchildren, Catalina, Josephine and Hope Ivy; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members; and her “fur babies.”

Private graveside services for her immediate family will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Chicago.

Myrtle Lois O’Neal

Jesup—Myrtle Lois O’Neal, 85, of Jesup died April 4, 2024.

The Wayne County native was a member of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church and a retired seamstress of 40 years who enjoyed gardening and her time with her family.

She was predeceased by her son, Darrell Roberston.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Scott of Jesup and Doris (Jimmy) Ledford of Acworth; a son, David Robertson of Gainesville; five grandchildren, Jim, Christy, Dawn, Marie and Israel; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Evelyn Campbell and Margie Blackmon both of Jesup; a brother, Tommy O’Neal of Screven; and a sister-in-law, Nell O’Neal of Jesup.

Memorial services will be held at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church at a later date.

Dorothy Kesser

Jesup—Dorothy “Dot” Ganey Kesser, 92, of Knox, New York and Jesup died April 5, 2024.

She had lived in Wayne County most of her adult life. She was of the Catholic faith and a retired civil service employee of 31 years. She also was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying with her husband in their planes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph V. Kesser; her parents, Ernest and Sadie Bennett Ganey; sisters, Bobbie Jean Tankersley, Patsy Godwin, Betty Manning and Hazel Ganey; and a brother, Billy Ganey. 

Survivors include a son, Michael E. (Paulette) Payne of Altamont, New York; grandson, Christopher Payne of Jesup; great-granddaughter, Dacey Payne of Jesup; a sister, Carolyn Levin of York, Pennsylvania; a brother, Parker Ganey of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held April 12 from Odum City Cemetery with Father Keith O’Neill officiating. Active pallbearers were her family.

Mary Frances Westberry

Jesup—Mary Frances Westberry, 70, of Jesup died April 14, 2024.

The Wayne County native was a member of Mc-Kinnon Deliverance Church of God and enjoyed her family, friends and animals.

Her parents, Thomas and Louise Westberry, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Shirley Manning; five brothers, James (Louise) Westberry, Aaron (Jean) Westberry, Bobby (Brenda) Westberry, Jimmy Westberry and Joseph (Brenda) Westberry, all of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held April 17 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Dale Bange officiating. Interment followed in George Cemetery. Active pallbearers were members of her family.

Wayne Brantley

Hinesville—Wayne Brantley, 72, of Hines-ville and formerly of Jesup died April 15, 2024.

The Wayne County native was a Baptist and a retired crane operator with Dozier Crane Company. He loved hunting, woodworking, fishing and metal detecting, especially at the beach.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lucinda Renee Brantley; his brother, Charles Brantley; and parents, Dan and Bettye Brantley.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Marta Lucia Brantley of Hines-ville; two daughters, Danielle Brantley Hudson of Screven and Johana Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; two sons, Daniel Vincent Brantley of Jesup and Tommy Stewart of Tennessee; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Lawler of Screven; a brother, Perry Brantley of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held April 17 at Rinehart Chapel with Brother Wayne Flowers officiating. Interment followed in the Gardi Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Chase, Cody and Eddie Hudson, Austin Neeley, Matthew Gross and Tommy Stewart.

Earl Morris

Odum—Earl Morris, 92, of Odum, died peacefully on April 15, 2024.

He was a lifelong resident of Odum, which he lovingly referred to as “God’s Country.” He was born on April 12, 1932, to Ellis and Mamie Aspinwall Morris.

He spent his youth working on the family farm until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951. He served two years stateside as an Army medic in Battle Creek, Michigan. After the Army, he came home and met and later married Jeanette Peebles, the love of his life. He was a barber for 47 years and also retired from Wayne Correctional Institute.

He was an avid gardener, supplying many Odum residents with his fresh vegetables. He was a renowned storyteller regaling his family and friends with an endless repertoire of stories and anecdotes. He never met a stranger and considered every person he met a dear friend.

He was a great family man and a generous and loyal friend to many, his family said. He considered his family and multitude of friends to be his greatest legacy and was awarded the 2006 Odum Family of the Year.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jeanette P. Morris; parents, Ellis and Mamie A. Morris; three brothers, Eugene, Leon and Linton Morris; and a sister-in-law, Janette Edenfield Morris.

He is survived by his children, Steven Earl “Stevie” (June) Morris, Jo Ann (Cliff) Woods and Rock (Teresa) Morris; grandchildren, Brandon (MaryAnn) Yeomans, Krystal (Kasey) Keith, Kevin (Chelsie) Morris and Erica (Alan) Scott; great-grandchildren, Aiden Yeomans, Taylor Yeomans, Karson Grace Keith, Hunter Scott, Bailey Scott, Carson Scott and a new baby boy, Morris, due in August; an aunt, Sadie Russell; a sister-in-law, Cherry Morris; and a multitude of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Hayward Bass, the Rev. Varney Aspinwall and the Rev. Pete Boyd officiating. Interment will be in Odum City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Yeomans, Kevin Morris, Kasey Keith, Jim Westberry, Howell Clements, Jeff Horton, Ray Russell and Greg Jernigan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Howard, Johnny Brown, Keith Davis, Donald Aspinwall, Taylor Thornton and the staff of Hospice of Southeast Georgia, Stephanie Chadwick, Debbie Carter, Amy Leiner and the staff of Cotton Grove Estates.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
