Thera Mae Scott Anderson

Odum—Thera Mae Scott Anderson, 94, of Odum died March 21, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Wesleyan Methodist Church and a homemaker.  Earlier in her life, she worked as a rural U.S. Postal letter carrier for many years.

“She was a beautiful and gracious lady due to the efforts of her belated husband of 75 years, Brantley Anderson,” her family said. Her son, Robert, and grandson, Brant, also preceded her in death.

Survivors are her two daughters and caregivers, Judy (Jerry) Landon and Ginger Smith, all of Jesup; a granddaughter, Meliea DeLoach of Jesup; two great-grandchildren, Axl and Ace Anderson; and several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A celebration-of-life service was held March 24 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Anderson and Pastor Sheldon Rowell officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her family.

Colleen Cameron Pye

Odum—Colleen Cameron Pye, 94, of Odum died March 21, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker. She also was a helpmate for her military husband’s career. The Red Hat Society was a vital part of her social life, along with her passionate devotion to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Edward Pye; her son, Michael Pye; and several brothers, Elbert C., C.J. and David “Bull” Cameron.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie (Brenda) Pye and Ike (Donna) Pye, all of Odum; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Mosley of Jesup and Vivian (David) Edmondson of Inman, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Nola Brannen.

Funeral services were held March 24 at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Horne officiating. Interment will followed in the Georgia Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 1240 New Hope Road, Jesup, GA 31545.

Eldred B. King

Jesup—Eldred B. King, 90, of Jesup died March 19, 2023.

The Wayne County native attended Epworth Methodist Church and was a 35-year retired utilities superintendent for Rayonier. He held his job with Rayonier as one of his most enjoyable endeavors. Most of his fellow workers acknowledged his efforts with his team spirit of “Making People Better” a goal for all employees within his reach until retirement in 1993.

His leisure time was spent enjoying reading, traveling, tree farming, bicycling, running and walking many miles, and staying in touch with friends and coworkers.

He served his country in the U.S. Army and was in the 82nd Airborne Division with 15 missions to his credit.

He is predeceased by his parents, Islam McLendon King and Anna Bishop King; siblings Edna, Evie, Ellis, Estelle and Ernestine; and a granddaughter, Katelyn Anna King.

Survivors include the best decision ever made, his wife, Dixie Thompson King of Jesup; a son, Jefferson (Sheree Gordon) King of Naperville, Illinois; and two “super wonderful” grandsons, Spencer and Weston King of Naperville.

Private graveside funeral services were held March 22 from Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Larson officiating.

Mollie Yeomans Saxon

Jesup—Mollie Yeomans Saxon, 94, of Jesup died March 27, 2023, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Wayne County native was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church and a retired employee with Rayonier.

She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Saxon; sons, Cotton Saxon and Ken Saxon; and grandsons, Trent Saxon and Josh Saxon.

Survivors include grandchildren, Shawna (Mike) Ray, Kenyon (Carrie) Saxon, Kell (Jennifer) Saxon, Danielle Saxon and Robert (Jaymie) Brantley all of Jesup; 11 great-grandchildren; several siblings; and a host of relatives.

Funeral services were held March 28 from Old Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Ledbetter and the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her family.

Betty Mullis Hodge

Jesup—Betty Mullis Hodge, 87, of Jesup died  March 24, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of Jesup First Baptist Church and a 1953 Screven High School graduate. She was a former bank employee, a homemaker and a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Her best name was “Granny Betty,” as she adored her grandchildren. Gardening and cooking were her other favorite pastimes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Clarice Withrow Mullis, and her brother, Billy.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam DeCastro of Jesup; two sons, Chuck (Tesa) Hodge of Auburn, Alabama, and Art (Melessa) Hodge of Jesup; sisters, Wanda (Larry) Westberry of Warner Robins and Frances (Gary) Hoffman of Archer, Florida; a brother, Fred (Zelda) Mullis of Waycross; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 27 at O’Quinn Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Mullis and the Rev. Marien Mullis officiating. Interment followed in the O’Quinn Cemetery with family serving as active pallbearers.
