Robert Michael “Rob” Martin

Odum—Robert Michael “Rob” Martin, 60, of Odum died Oct. 29, 2023.

The Chat-ham County native had lived in Wayne County most of his adult life and was a former employee with The Press-Sentinel. He was owner of Martin’s Mobile Home Service.

He enjoyed yard sales, furniture restoration, and being with his family and fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verna Martin; stepfather, Earl Newman and sisters, Theresa Sherman and Brenda Gunnett.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Carol Brooker Martin of Odum; a sister, Angela (Chad) Davis of Sylvania; and extended relatives.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Elliott Aspinwall officiating. Graveside services will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be family.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

 

 

Jason David Olson

Jesup—Jason David Olson, 42, died Oct. 24, 2023, in Savannah.

Born in Duluth, Minnesota, he lived in Wayne County for several years and worked in customer service at Ace Hardware and Lowe’s.

He enjoyed camping, golfing, and woodworking. He recently accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Survivors include his parents, David and Kathryn Olson; a sister and brother-in-law, Rachel (Ryan) Mullis of Jesup; a maternal grandfather, Emil Malyuk of Duluth, Minnesota; a niece, Marilyn Paige Mullis of Jesup; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Gardi Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bohannon, the Rev. Stanley Todd and the Rev. Randy Pruitt officiating.

Larry Timothy Blanton

Jesup—Larry Timothy Blanton, 54, affectionately known as “Timmy,” by his family and friends, died Oct. 26, 2023, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, he was born on Feb. 8, 1969. Throughout his life he was always known to be a talker and was very mechanically inclined. His ability to fix just about anything made him great at construction and maintenance work. He worked with Balfour Beatty Construction on Fort Stewart for many years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering with things around the house in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Blanton; his sister, Anna Sha Blanton; and his first wife, Regina Thomas Blanton.

Survivors include his daughters, Chelsie Larae (Nanka) Blanton of Fayetteville, Emma Reese Blanton of Jesup and Ellie Renea Blanton of Jesup; his mother, Colleen Brannen Ivey of Jesup; a sister, Tammy Kay (Dickie) Waters of Odum; grandchildren, Jalean, Calvin and Elijah; a former wife and lifelong friend, Sonia Blanton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

A celebration-of-life service was held Oct. 29 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Dickie Waters officiating.

Interment will be held privately in New Hope Cemetery at a later date.
