Sandra Sherrill Mosley

Jesup—Sandra “Sandy” Sherrill Mosley, 76, of Jesup died Jan. 3, 2023.

The Memphis, Tennessee, native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was an active member of Northside Bible Baptist Church. Her greatest passion was her love for Jesus Christ, and her goal for her entire family was for them all to know her “dear lovely Lord Jesus.”

Her home was where she wanted everyone to feel loved, safe, welcomed and warm. Her love for reading and writing was lovingly passed down to her children and then to her grandchildren. Tea parties were a frequent event with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Geraldine Sherrill, and a brother, Don Sherrill.

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, John H. Mosley of Jesup; two daughters, Tracy (Chris) Hires of Jesup and Janet (Brian) Patrick of Ailey; two sons, John H. (Susan) Mosley II of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Timothy (Sarah) Mosley of Jesup; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dr. S. Beth Sherrill (husband, Steven McDaniel) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Anita (Danny) Owen of Trenton, Tennessee and Angie (Jim) Patrick of Orange Park. Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Northside Bible Baptist Church with Brother Brian Patrick and Pastor Anthony Hipps officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Brother Chris Hires officiating. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Kevin Lewis

Jesup—James “Kevin” Lewis, 54, of Jesup and Tucker died Jan. 4, 2023, of an apparent cardiac arrest.

The Wayne County native was a 1986 graduate of Wayne County High School, where he was drum major. He was a graduate of Augusta Medical College, having earned a respiratory therapist degree. He was employed by Emory University Hospital and previously worked with Eggleston Children’s Hospital.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially being an uncle as well as craft work and cooking.

He was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie Padgett Lewis.

Survivors include a spouse, Steven F. Walton of Tucker; his parents, Julian and Carol Lewis of Jesup; a sister, Lisa (Bob) Callaway of Collins; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, whom he adored.

Graveside services were held Jan. 9 from George Cemetery with Elder Keith Tillman officiating. Active pallbearers were family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Eggleston Hospital, 1405 Clifton Rd., N.E., Atlanta, GA. 30322.

Mezell Blanton Floyd

Jesup—Mezell Blanton Floyd, 83, of Jesup died on Jan. 4, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of Crossroads Church of God, a homemaker and a servant for the Lord. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Maurice Floyd; her daughter, Patty Renee Floyd; and her grandson, Randall Floyd.

Survivors include a son, Randy (Barbara) Floyd of Midway; a daughter, Donna (Leon) McKenzie of Twin City; two grandchildren, Krystal Harvey (Donnie) Smiley of Baxley and Jonathan (Danna) Harvey of Odum; great-grandchildren, Garrison, Layton, Hayes, Hagen and Paisley-Kaye; a sister, Bevy Fennel; a brother, Cecil Blanton; and a special niece, Lory Ann, and her daughter, Madison.

Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Hulet Smith officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Wayne Allen Brewer

Jesup—Wayne Allen Brewer, 78, a native of Wayne County and raised in Baxley died Jan. 8, 2023.

The 21-year Air Force retired veteran traveled the world, including tours in Guam, Thailand, Japan, England and in five states. His goal was to obtain rank of chief master sergeant and to obtain a college degree. He reached both of these goals in year 19 of service. After his retirement, he completed 15 years with Civil Service and then returned to Wayne County to live his best life.

His love of children lead him to become a Mason and Shriner. For many years, he was Santa for underprivileged children.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Fran Brewer; daughters, Kimberly (Victor) Cote and Karen Young; grandchildren, Justin (Blaire) Cote, Caleb Young, Zachary Cote and Emma Young; a sister, Beth Brewer Spinharney; and special nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Phil Bunce officiating with Masonic Rites by Jesup Lodge No. 112.  Active pallbearers will be fellow Masons. Interment will be at 3 p.m.  in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Duane Nelson Westberry

Surrency—Duane Nelson Westberry, 76, of Surrency died Jan. 7, 2023.

He was born on July 3, 1946, in Surrency to the late Nelson David Westberry and the late Lula Elizabeth Devereaux Westberry.

He was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served in the Vietnam War. He was retired from ITT Rayonier after nearly 40 years of service. He loved his cats and enjoyed reading and watching Westerns.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dorval Westberry; a sister, Genieve Fontenot; and a son-in-law, John Rosevear.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Westberry of Surrency; a daughter, Barbie Rosevear of Monroe; and a grandson, Nelson Blalock of Monroe.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m at Friendship Baptist Church in Wayne County with the Rev. Kevin Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Nelson Blalock, Jeffery Griffin, Javan Flowers, Jared Flowers, Glynn Pearce and Kevin Westberry.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Friendship Baptist Church or any veteran organization.

Betty Jo Bryant Roberts

Polk City, Florida—Betty Jo Bryant Roberts, 92, of Polk City, Florida, died on Jan. 2, 2023.

She was born Jan. 17,1930, in Lakeland, Florida, and moved to Jesup in 1960. She was most well-known for her smile and the battered fried chicken and fries at the Dairy Ranch Drive-in. She retired in 1977 to the family farm of her now-deceased husband and former Jesup businessman, Hiram Miles (Miley) Roberts, to raise cattle, hunt, fish and enjoy life. She served the Green Swamp Community as a poll worker for seven presidential and countless local and state elections.

Survivors include a son, Carlton Alvin (Deborah) Roberts of Newnan; a daughter, Patricia Denise (Jerry) Snellings of West Paducah, Kentucky; six grandsons, Matthew McDuffie (Catherine) Roberts of Sandy Springs, Josef Miles (Kimberly) Roberts of Auburn,  Seth Taylor (Sally) Roberts of Newnan,  William Alexander (Meredith) Roberts of Roswell, Jeremy Ryan (Kimberly) Snellings of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, and Jacob Nelson Snellings of Holloman AFB, New Mexico; a granddaughter, Mollie Mills Roberts of Atlanta; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, she and her family request donations to be made to the Polk Education Foundation to fund agricultural studies in Polk County schools.
