Casper Denise Lopez

Jesup—Casper Denise Lopez, 44, died Feb. 19, 2023, in Gaines-ville, Florida.

A native and lifelong resident of Jesup, he was born on Dec. 27, 1978.

She had a big heart and loved helping people in need, according to her family. She worked for home health for many years and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren when she wasn’t working. “She loved life and lived it to the fullest,” her family said. She attended the Hickory Street Church of God when she was young, and she attended several other local Pentecostal churches throughout her life.

Her father, Roy Lee Beasley, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Nicholas Talacuatl, Carlos Lopez Jr., Trenton Lopez and Brendon Lopez all of Jesup; two grandchildren, Olivia Talacuatl and Sirkyng Harris of Knoxville, Tennessee; her mother, Sherry Beasley of Jesup; two brothers, Kcee Beasley and Lucas Franz of Jesup; and a host of extended-family members and friends. 

A memorial service will be held March 7 at 11 a.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with the Rev. Mike Wilder officiating.

Bishop David Wisdom

Savannah—Bishop David Wisdom, 90, died in Savannah on Feb. 19, 2023.

He was the third child of Caleb and Rebecca Wisdom and was born on April 17, 1932, in Muirhouse Buxton in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica. He lived in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, New York and New Jersey and spent his final years in Jesup.

He was an ordained minister in the New Testament Church of God and served the New Testament Church in various offices throughout his life. He was an accomplished musician and played a variety of musical instruments. He was, however, most proficient at the organ. This instrument gave him much delight as the melodious strains rang out at home and in rallies, concerts, church services, funerals and weddings under “the magical touch of his nimble fingers,” his family said.

He was a renowned building contractor and was known for his work with stone as well as the high-standard finish which characterized his completed projects. He taught many young men building skills and was known by many as a generous person. He left his mark in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and the United States, mainly in New Jersey and Georgia.

Bishop Wisdom (BTH and MBS) met and married Annetta Fraser in 1955, and the union produced 11 children, two of whom predeceased him. The nine remaining children continue to make significant contributions in the States, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines as vice presidents, a human resource manager, an IT specialist, music teachers, nurses, a permanent secretary, a fashion designer, an interior decorator and an entrepreneur.

He married Amanda Wisdom 25 years ago in New Jersey, where they originally lived. They moved to Jesup 21 years ago and both made their mark on the community and their church.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Wisdom; nine children, Samuel Wisdom, Dr. Ena Williams, Morine Williams BH (M), Hillory Wisdom, Melrose Atkinson, Solomon Wisdom, Neville Wisdom, Dr. Eveth Green, and the youngest, David Wisdom; sisters, Gertrude Brown, Maudrian Grant and Sarah Williams; a brother, Daniel Wisdom; grandchildren, Damian Chambers Antoneth Mitchel, Althea Wisdom, Kerry-Ann Pacht, Dr. Shelly-ann Dakarai, Chellise Williams McPherson, Andrea Williams, Andrew Williams, Alex Williams, Romario Atkinson, Ronaldo Atkinson, Javon Wisdom, Theodore Wisdom, Nicholas Wisdom, Nathaniel Wisdom, Sheniqua Green, Natasha Green, Joseph Green Jr., Shantell Wisdom, Abagail Wisdom and Maria Wisdom; great-grandchildren, Alton-lee McPherson, Shawna-lee McPherson, Taj-lee McPherson, Maya Pacht, Layla Pacht, Skie Jackson, Catherine Jackson, and Catherine Mitchell, Anna Dakarai, Jadari Chambers, Azaria Chambers and Kaiden Pinnock Chambers; sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Leonard Williams, Bishop Sonny Williams, Roy Atkinson, Joseph Greene, Joy Wisdom and Julie Wisdom; stepchildren, Sharon Martin, Stanford McKeithan and Quincy (deceased); stepgrandchildren, Fredrick, Edwin, Jermaine Barrett, Oraldo Austin, Wayne McGann, Tyreek Martin, Za’Yirr, Jaidah and Tiana McKeithan; eight great-stepgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Joy Rogers St. Dennis

Jesup—Joy “Nana” Rogers St. Dennis, 91, of Jesup died Feb. 23, 2023, under the care of Georgia Hospice Care.

The Pierce County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a Baptist. She was most known for her beautiful smile as a Walmart greeter. She was an avid reader and loved to travel, shop and garden.

Her parents, John and Inez Rogers, preceded her in death, along with two brothers, Donald C. and Charlie L. Rogers.

Survivors include a daughter, Christy (Dean) Robinson of Jesup; a son, Chris (Mary) St. Dennis; an adopted daughter-in-love, Gina Willis; a granddaughter, Jessica (Jeffry) Davis; two grandsons, Matthew (Dr. Carlos) Robinson-Aguirre and Mark Robinson; great-grandchildren, Ashly-Ann, Sophie, EmmaJoy and Skyler (Jade); a great-great-granddaughter, Lillian; a sister, Carolyn Ristaino; a sister-in-love, Nell Rogers; and several nieces and nephews, Joy and Joanna Rogers, Nina, Sterling and Johnny Ristaino.

Funeral services were held Feb. 28 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Levi Moore officiating. Interment followed in Altamaha Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Carlos Robinson-Aguirre, Jeffry Davis, Skyler Davis, Danny Robinson, Joy and Joanna Rogers.  Honorary pallbearers were her fellow employees of Walmart, Georgia Hospice Care Staff, Jessica Brannen and Red Grimes.

Peggy Jones Payne

Jesup—Peggy Jones Payne, 89, of Jesup died Feb. 28, 2023, under the care of At Home Assisted Living and Hospice of South Georgia.

The Ware County native and former resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida, had lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was a long-time teacher in the Wayne County school system.

A celebration-of-life service is set for March 11, but complete arrangements were still being finalized by press time.

Glynn Norris Ogden

Odum—Glynn Norris Ogden, 67, of Odum died Feb. 24, 2023, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Wayne County native was a 1974 graduate of Wayne County High School and a 40-year career employee with CSX Transportation. He was a lifelong member of Altamaha Baptist Church and was a founding member of the Big “O” Hunting Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. One of his favorite places to be was at the Ogden cabin on the river at Rocky Lake.

He was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Ruby McIntyre Odgen; his brother, Jimmy Ogden; and his son, Wesley Glynn Ogden.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Patricia R. Ogden of Odum; sons, Caleb and Tanner Ogden of Odum; brothers, George (Kay) Ogden of Jesup and Robert (Karen) Ogden of Odum; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services were held Feb. 28 from Altamaha Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Richardson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Hammer Stanfield, Danny Carter, Rick Davidson, Brant Phelps, Cody Griffis and Jordan Harvey. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Big “O” Hunting Club and his friends and co-workers of CSX Transportation.

Carole “Sue” Newman Dorsey

Jesup—Carole “Sue” Newman Dorsey, 80, of Jesup died at home on Feb. 23, 2023, after a short illness.

The Tennessee native and longtime resident of Wayne County was a member of Jesup Church of God and a retired budget analyst for Fort Stewart Military Base.

She enjoyed reading, ceramics and spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Owen Dorsey; her mother and father, Margaret Rose and Robert Earl Newman; one sister Marie [Howard] Steele; and one brother, Robert [Pauline] Newman.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Larry Dorsey; a daughter, Brenda [Kary] Edenfield of Braselton; a son, Gary Dorsey [Stephanie] of Jesup; four grandchildren, Jonathan [Lauren] Edenfield of Jefferson, Kadi Edenfield [Matthew] Carroll of Roswell, Connor Dorsey of Athens and Garrison Dorsey of Jesup; four great-grandchildren; and  a sister, Betty Owen of Marianna, Florida.

Funeral services were held at Rinehart and Sons Chapel Feb. 27 with Chaplain Phil Bunce officiating.  Private interment followed at Old Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Connor Dorsey, Garrison Dorsey, Jonathan Edenfield, Matthew Carroll, Jerry Darsey and Alan Darsey.

Sandra Leonard Crummey

Jesup—Sandra Leonard Crummey, 80, of Jesup died Feb. 23, 2023.

The long-time resident of Jesup was a member of Spring Grove Freewill Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She had worked with several nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant, cashier at several convenience stores and was known for crocheting garments for many friends and relatives.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Herman Crummey; a daughter-in-law, Angela Crummey; and a brother, Richard Leonard Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy (Vernon) Allen of Jesup; a son, Duncan Crummey of Jesup; sisters, Arlene Herndon and Catherine Bennett, both of Baxley, and Linda Anderson of Jesup; grandchildren, Shelly Herrin, Remi Klaire Crummey, Dylan (G) Allen, Veronica (Cody) Daniels; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at Spring Grove Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Kessler and Pastor Tim Brantley officiating. Interment followed in Crummey Cemetery on Hwy. 169. Active pallbearers were Roy Crummey Jr., Curtis Crummey, Carl Anderson, Mack Anderson, Kevin Rockfellow and Ricky Manning.

Geraldine Weaver Mobley

Jesup—Geraldine Weaver Mobley, 81, of Jesup died Feb. 25, 2023.

The Wayne County native was a member of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church and spent many years working with the elderly in several nursing homes. Her heart was always tender toward their needs, her family said. She also enjoyed working in her yard and savoring each and every flower and plant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ervin “Sonny” Mobley; her sons, Mitch and Rusty Mobley; and several siblings.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Andy) Eason and Sherry (Darryl) Morris, all of Jesup; a son, Tony Mobley of Jesup; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Christine (Charles) Mullis of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held March 1 at Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Ray Worley and the Rev. Rodney O’Quinn officiating. Interment followed in Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were her family.
