Sheila Chris Bearden

Jesup—Sheila Chris Bearden, 46, died Dec. 24, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, after a lengthy illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, she was born on Dec. 30, 1975. She was a loving daughter, sister and mother who worked hard to take care of her family. She was a housekeeper by trade who enjoyed fishing and listening to music in her spare time. She loved to laugh and had an easygoing, lighthearted nature.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fred H. Miller, and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P.R. Stephens.

Survivors include two sons, Brandon and Trenton Bearden of Brantley County; her mother, Alice Miller of Jesup; siblings, Marty (Jannette) Teston, Sharon Lane, Eddie Griffis and Kenneth Wilkerson, all of Jesup; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Interment will be private.

Sheila Hannah Bunch

Jesup—Sheila Hannah Bunch, 60, died peacefully on Dec. 22, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A resident of Jesup for more than 30 years, she was born on Sept. 10, 1962. She spent her early years in Savannah before relocating to Jesup in 1990.

She loved people and devoted her life to caring for others, working as a caretaker with home health for many years. She enjoyed nature and loved flowers.  She spent countless hours gardening and watching the birds. In her spare time, she loved cooking, shopping and taking trips to the beach. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who showed the love of her savior, Jesus Christ, to everyone she met. She was a longtime active member of the Blanton Grove Church of God, where she was instrumental in the operation of the food pantry.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Hannah, and her husband, Walter Bunch.

Survivors include five children, the Rev. Josh (Kristyn) May, Jodie May and companion John Lewis, Justin May, Melissa (Jimmy) Hooper and Patrick Bunch, all of Jesup; grandchildren, Matthew Bunch, Kevin Rodriguez, Amelia Hooper, Brooke Jones, Lance Jones, Ansley Jones, Carson May, Aniston May, Moriah May and Ella May; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Lewis and Ralphie Hinton, with one on the way; her mother, Laurabelle Hann of Baxley; siblings, Sammy Hannah of Baxley, Janice Hannah of Jesup, Bernie (April) Hann of Brunswick, Raymond “Bear” (Tammy) Hann of Nahunta, Ernie Hann of Baxley, Amy Hann of Baxley, Cindy Hannah of Alma, Dustin Hannah and Chris Murphy; a longtime family friend, Stacy Thornton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Memorial services were held Dec. 26 at Blanton Grove Church of God with the Rev. Josh May officiating.

Remembrances may be made to the food pantry at the Blanton Grove Church of God, 4497 Oglethorpe Road, Jesup, GA 31545.

Charles “Jeff” Hewitt

Jesup—Charles “Jeff” Hewitt, 59, of Jesup died Dec. 21, 2022.

The Wayne County native was employed with Pine Forest Country Club in the maintenance department. He enjoyed watching old movies and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his sisters, Edna (Harry) Spell of Jesup, Sherry (Roy) Odum of Jesup, Judy (Lacy) Evors of Alma and Anita Hewitt of Ludowici; brothers, Jimmy (Marilyn) Hewitt of Jesup and Benny (Jean) Hewitt Sr. of Alma; and close friends, Jason (Acela) Brinson and their daughter, Shelby.

Memorial services will be held by the family.

James Richard “Ricky” Knight

Darien—James Richard “Ricky” Knight, 60, of Darien died Dec. 22, 2022.

The Metter native had lived in McIntosh County all of his life and occasionally attended Darien Church of God. He was a former mechanic for Ed Deal’s Used Cars. He also loved to shrimp. His passion was built around music and playing the guitar. He was a homebody but did enjoy visits with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hershel Knight, and his brother, Lonnie Knight.

Survivors include his mother, Eleanor Knight of Jesup; a sister, Katherine (Dale) Blocker of Townsend; a brother, Lee (Stacey) Knight of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Dec. 27 in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating.

Ralph Wayne Robinson

Jesup—Ralph Wayne Robinson, 73, of Jesup died Dec. 22, 2022, under the care of Satilla Hospice in Waycross.

The 1967 Wayne County High School graduate was a Vietnam veteran. He also attended Brunswick Junior College and Georgia Southern University.

The Epworth Methodist Church member enjoyed watching college football and wrestling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Curtis and Winifred Griffis Robinson; his brother, Donald Robinson; his sister, Debbie Robinson; his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Pearl Robinson; and his maternal grandmother, Nora Douberly.

Survivors include a brother, Steve (Faye) Robinson of Brunswick; nephews, Steve Jr., Bradley, Trevon and Treyce Robinson; and several great-nieces and a great-nephew.

A celebration-of-life service was held on Dec. 28 at Rinehart Chapel.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Bobby Lamb, the White House (Sandra and Debbie) and the Satilla Hospice staff.
