Lady Jackets fall 50-45 in ‘Elite 8’ state playoff
The Lady Jacket basketball team ended its run in the state championship playoffs Tuesday night, falling to Columbia High of Decatur 50-45 in a heartbreaking season finale.
Lady Jacket head coach Kala Hobbs said the girls played great.
“But we were totally robbed,” she said. “It was taken from them tonight. I’ve been a head coach a while, and I have never said that before, but the girls didn’t deserve for it to end like that.”
She said the officiating cost the girls the game.
“We were down one point with the ball and Terren got slammed twice with no foul called,” she said. “Then they got the rebound, and we had to foul to get the ball back.”
Terren Ward led the girls with a double-double night, scoring 22 points and pulling in 20 rebounds.
Destiny Marcus and Logann Echols both had good nights, scoring eight points each. Marcus also had seven rebounds.
