Bobby “Bugs” G. Martin Jr.

Jesup—Bobby “”Bugs” G. Martin Jr., 61, of Jesup died Sept. 1, 2019, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Wayne County native attended the Parkway Church of God. He was born Aug. 9, 1958, to Bobby G. Martin Sr. and Shirley Douberly Martin. He was predeceased by his father, Bobby G. Martin Sr.

Survivors include his parents, Dean and Shirley Douberly Zeeb of Jesup; daughter, Katie Martin, of Jesup and her mother, Kathy Martin, of Lincoln, Nebraska; siblings, Vickie (Roger) Manske of West Fargo, North Dakota and Gary (Laura) Zeeb of Jacksonville, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Sept. 3 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Bill and Rita Harper officiating. Private interment followed the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA  31545, Parkway Church of God, P.O. Box 1211, Jesup, GA  31598, or a favorite charity.

Melba Thornton Carpenter

Savannah--Melba Thornton Carpenter, 74, of Savannah received her angel wings Aug. 31, 2019, after an extended illness.

She was born to the late John “Frank” Thornton and Beatrice Dubberly Thornton on June 8, 1945. The Patterson native spent most of her adult life in Savannah. She was a member of Heavenbound Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school class for many years. She retired to enjoy grandchildren and gardening but was employed by the Savannah-Chatham County public school nutrition program for 14 years, feeding the children of the future.

She also loved to cook and sew for friends and family. Her family said that they will miss her famous cinnamon rolls. They added that she had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Marvin Carpenter of Savannah; daughter, Sonya Carpenter of Savannah; grandchildren, Terri Conner, Jessi Rush, Rex Rush; sister, Mary Davis of Savannah. She also leaves behind a great many caring relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Sept. 2 at Big Creek Cemetery with Pastor Martin Fuller officiating. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
