Clayton Lamar Harris

Ludowici--Clayton Lamar Harris, 41, died Sept. 22, 2018, at his home under the care of his family and Georgia Hospice Care.

He was born in Savannah and had lived in Pooler. However, he had lived most of his life in Long County. He had been employed with Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah for 20 years and was an engineer at the time of his death.

He was an avid hunter, golfer and sports enthusiast and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Jami Adams Harris of Ludowici; son and favorite caregiver, Zachary Harris of Ludowici; parents, Stanley and Joyce Harris of Ludowici; brother and sister-in-law, Kerry and Shannon Harris of Guyton; paternal grandmother, Ellen Harris of Ludowici; in-laws, Marty and Casey Adams of Ludowici; nephews and nieces, Daulton, Connar, Kayla, Skylar, Chance, Macy, Lillie, William; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at Gum Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Gabe Gill and Dr. Paul Weldon officiating.

Burial was in Rye Patch Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Anthony Moody, Gary DeLoach Jr., Winn Dunham, Dale Horne, Glenn Yeomans, Grant DeLoach, Robbie Skipper and Chip Brinkley.

Melody Key

Jesup—Melody Key, 64, of Jesup died Sept. 23, 2018, after an extended illness surrounded by family at her residence and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Miami, Florida, native had lived most of her adult life on Sugar Loaf Key in the Florida Keys but had relocated to Jesup to be near family after the passing of her husband, Danny Key, in 2006.

Besides being a successful entrepreneur, Melody (Mel to her friends) was a champion women’s angler in the Florida Keys and friend to many.

Survivors are her three sisters, Lona Banks, formerly of Jesup and now of Tucson, Arizona, Elizabeth Cameron of Jesup and Kathy Taylor of Brunswick, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Pastor Jack Lee officiating.  A celebration of Life is planned for December on Mel’s Key, a small island discovered by her husband just off Sugar Loaf Key.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.

Dorothy Dunham Sponholtz

Jesup—Dorothy Dunham Sponholtz, 95, of Jesup died Sept. 23, 2018.

The Wayne County native and former resident of Coral Gables, Florida, had lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Puckett-McDonald Sunday School Class. She enjoyed assisting her husband in his vegetable brokerage business in Florida for many years and was a HALT advocate.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan E. Sponholtz; two sisters, Isabelle Howard and Vivian Dunham; two brothers, John F. Dunham and Spencer Dunham; a nephew, Charles F. Dear, and a brother-in-law, Clarence Dear.

Survivors are two daughters, Dr. Vivian Elaine Sponholtz of Gainesville, Florida, and Sharon Louise Williams of Coral Springs, Florida, and a sister, Louise Dear, and her family, Richard, Stephen and David Dear.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Garth Duke-Barton officiating. Interment will be in Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her family.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services at the chapel.

Joyce Jacobs Blanton

Odum—Joyce Jacobs Blanton, 80, of Odum died Sept. 23, 2018, at her residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services were Sept. 25 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Pastor Anthony Hipps officiating.
