Tom Lee Mims
Jesup—Tom Lee Mims Jr., 82, of Jesup, died on Sept. 19, 2017, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1935, to Tom Lee Mims Sr. and Virginia Slappey-Mims in Tarversville. He was educated in the public school system of Twiggs County and was employed with Public Service Energy and Gas for 34 years.
He always tried to improve everything and loved tearing down and building up, according to his family. In his spare time he came to enjoy fishing. He had a genuine heart and a fun-loving spirit that complemented his sense of humor, his family said, adding that he was well-loved and will be missed dearly.
He and his first wife, Fannie Catherine Mims, had three children. He later married Marlita Galloniga-Mims, with whom he had one child. He was preceded in death by both parents, Tom Sr. and Viginia Mims; a stepdaughter, Loretta King; and two brothers, Robert Glover and Irvin Glover.
He is survived by his wife, Marlita G. Mims of Lodi, New Jersey; two daughters, Sandra Harris of Jesup and Marilyn Mims of Lodi; a stepdaughter, Eloise Wade of Patterson, New Jersey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Karen Mims of Lodi and Charles and Gloria Mims of Jesup; 13 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, located at 247 W. Pine St. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services. Cremation will follow the services.

Jesup—Russell “Rusty” Strickland, 54, of Jesup died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017.
A Wayne County native, he was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church of God and a retired logger. He enjoyed family, supporting his grandchildren, taking care of loved ones and cutting wood with his wife. He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Martha Joyce Strickland, and a sister, Linda O‚ÄôNeal.
Survivors are his wife, Charat Strickland of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Strickland and James Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Brittney Strickland of Jesup; two stepdaughters, Haley and Kayla Barber of Jesup; a stepson, J.C. Padgett of Jesup; three sister and two brothers-in-law, Vicky McQueen of Jesup, Sherry and Ray Ellis of Jesup, and Tina and Delmas Manning of Jesup; four grandchildren, Fallon Smith, Jada Smith, Jesse (J.R.) Strickland and Paityn Strickland; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration-of-life service will be today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Victory Tabernacle Church of God with the Rev. Keith Lairsey officiating.
