Frances Gunn Clary

Odum—Frances Gunn Clary, 81, of Odum died Sept. 18, 2018, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia after an extended illness.

A native of Molena, she had lived in Wayne County most of her adult life and was a member of Grace Assembly of God Church. She was “a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker,” according to her family. She was a Sunday school teacher and a choir member and attended church youth camps with her daughters. She was “a fantastic cook, seamstress and such a giving person,” her family said.

Survivors are her husband of 63 years, Samuel Clary of Odum; three daughters, Joy (Ken) Blanton of Cleveland, Tennessee, Janice ( Ed) Back of Northport, Alabama, and Judy (Alan) Beaver of Odum; six grandchildren, Christopher (Tracey) Blanton, Jayla (Evan) Swafford, Stefanie (Aaron) Ladner, Evan (Lauren) Back, and Nicholas and Garrett Beaver; five great-grandchildren, Nora and Carter Blanton, Layton Eloise and Ava Swafford, and Eva Ladner; two brothers, Jett Gunn and Morris (Sandy) Morgan; a sister, Jean (David) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sept. 21, 2018, at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Vann Dempsey and the Rev. Dale Bange officiating. Interment was in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Nicholas and Garrett Beaver, Evan Back, Andy Clary, and Ronnie and Ryan Jones.

Peggy Hagans  Landon

Jesup—Peggy Hagans Landon, 59 of Jesup died Sept. 19, 201,8 in Harborview Nursing Home after an extended illness.

A native of Chatham County, she had lived in Wayne County most of her life, attended Trinity Baptist Church and was a former employee of DMI in Jesup.  She was proud to be a 13-year breast cancer survivor. She most enjoyed being a grandmother but also liked to travel and help others in need. She was predeceased by her parents, Solomon and Joyce Jarriel Hagans; a sister, Cathleen Hagans; and a brother, Danny Hagans.

Survivors are a daughter, Tina Fuentes of Jesup; two sisters, Joann (James) Harris and Betty Sue Price, both of Jesup; five grandchildren, Alejandra, Santos Jr., Gabriela, Pablo and Isaiah; several aunts and cousins; and numerous friends.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow in Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery in Statesboro.

The family will receive friends at the church.

James L. “Jim” Fleshman

Screven—James L. “Jim” Fleshman, 83, of Screven died September 19, 2018, at his residence and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A native of Ohio, he lived in Wayne County the past 32 years, was a U. S. Army veteran, and was a member of Screven First Baptist Church. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with the Columbus Ohio Zoo and later worked in the same capacity at the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministry in Baxley. He graduated with a captain’s license issued from the U.S. Coast Guard. Some hobbies James loved to spend his time on were fishing, carpentry and watching baseball.

Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Barbara Fleshman of Screven; daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie (Chuck) Fisher of Columbus, Ohio, and Robin (Kimm) Cumming of Prospect, Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law, James Patrick (Lisa) Fleshman of Blackshear and John (Margie) Fleshman of Screven; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Linda A. Robertson of Columbus, Ohio, and Paul E. Sheridan of Logan, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Screven First Baptist Church’s Sharing Place, 302 School St., Screven, GA 31560.

Dianne Aycock Carter

Baxley—Dianne Aycock Carter, 69, of Baxley died Sept. 19, 2018, at her residence.

Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church.

Swain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
