David Lee Brown

Ludowici--David Lee Brown, 73, of Ludowici died Aug. 6, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

There will not be a visitation/wake. Remains will lie in repose one hour prior to  services.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at First African Baptist Church, 1861 Barrington Ferry Road, Riceboro, GA 31323.

Interment will be in First A.B. Church Cemetery, Riceboro.

Robert H. Johnson

Jesup—Robert H. Johnson, 92, of Jesup died Aug. 9, 2019.

The Wayne County native was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

The U.S. Army World War II veteran was owner of Johnson Sheet Metal and loved gardening and sharing with others.

He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Johnson and Pearl Long Johnson, and sisters, Winell, Truby, Marian and Meta.

Survivors include a son, Robbie (Teresa) Johnson of Brunswick; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Pastor Vann Dempsey officiating. Private family burial followed in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Peggy Hires Bennett

Jesup--Peggy Hires Bennett, 85, of Jesup, died Aug. 10, 2019.

The Wayne County native was a homemaker and member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sons, Art (Maxine) Bennett, John (Jean) Bennet and Mark (Marlena) Bennett of Jesup; sisters, Janice Scarborough and Elise Williams of Jesup; several half-sisters and half-brothers; and several grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Aug. 13 at George Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Greenlee officiating.

Family received friends at the cemetery.

Monte C. Smith

Jesup—Monte C. Smith, 76, of Jesup died Aug. 12, 2019, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Tattnall County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life and was a homemaker. She loved to crochet, garden and play cards.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Smith and several siblings.

Survivors are two daughters, Sandra (Luther) Caraway of Vidalia and Sharon (Jay) Suggs of Brunswick; a son, Randy (Emma) Rogers of Vidalia; a sister, Janet Strickland of Glennville; a companion, Jimmy Davis Sr. of Jesup; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Stan Todd officiating. Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
