John Alan Brannen
Jesup—John Alan Brannen, 66, died May 4, 2018, at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia after a short illness.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1952, in Jesup to the late J.B. and Bernice Roberson Brannen. He was a 1970 graduate of Wayne County High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he became a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan.
He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era and was a longtime member of the VFW Post No. 4583 in Jesup.
He was a carpenter by trade who loved traveling when he was younger, building things with his hands, playing with his grandchildren and telling stories.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Jestina Brannen, and his brother, Joseph Barney “Chipper” Brannen Jr. preceded him in death.
Survivors include his two daughters, Rachel Lydia Brannen of Jesup and Leslee Chelsea K. Love of St. Simon’s Island; one brother, Dennis Arnie Brannen of Tucker; four grandchildren, Lydia Caroline K. Palmer of St. Simon’s, Madison Mosby of Jesup, Alaska Blue K. Love of St. Simon’s and Mary-Jane LaRoche of Jesup; an aunt, Opal Pitts of Richmond Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Interment services will be held privately at a later date in Old Bethel Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Poppell, Frank Poppell, Richard Dear, Kevin Minchew, Chris Tyre, and members of the VFW Post No. 4583.

Virginia Clary Anderson
Jesup—Virginia Clary Anderson, 93, of Jesup died May 5, 2018, after an extended illness.
The Wayne County native was a former member of Piney Grove Church of God, where she served as clerk for more than 60 years, and attended Odum Church of God.
She was a retired administrator with the Wayne County Health Department and enjoyed being a homemaker who was well-known for her south-Georgia cooking.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Lloyd W. Anderson; two sisters, Gladys Clary and Aletha Anderson; two brothers, Jesse and Eugene Clary; and a niece, Fredi Deaver.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Jewell Anderson of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Ronnie Jones of Jesup; two grandchildren, Melissa (Reid) Orvin and Ryan (Morgan) Jones, all of Jesup; two great-grandchildren, Gage and Gavin Orvin of Jesup; a step-granddaughter, Donna O’Connor; a sister, Eleanor (Madison) Harvey of Odum; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Irene Clary of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Revis and Gail Clary of Odum, Sammy and Frances Clary of Odum, Kelly and Jane Clary of Milledgeville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held May 7 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lord and the Rev. Justin Moriarty officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Ronald Anderson, Donald Westberry, Ryan Jones, Dan Clary, Archie Clary and Andy Clary.

Judith Gayle “Judy” Royal Yovu
Waycross—Judith Gayle “Judy” Royal Yovu, 75, of Blackshear died early morning, May 4, 2018, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.
Born on March 3, 1943, she had lived in Pierce County for the last 27 years. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her grandchildren, family and husband. She enjoyed reading, working in her yard, shopping and eating at Sweet T’s Restaurant. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late William Joseph and Mildred Iris Parks Royal. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Karen Linder.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, John Yovu of Blackshear; her son, Scott Patrick Daniels of Jesup; her sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Earl Yeomans of Jesup; a daughter-in-law, Lavonda Holland of Jesup; two grandchildren, Jordan Daniels and Ashley (Micah) Williams; five great-grandchildren, Damien Williams, Braden Daniels, Anakin Sky Williams, Paisley Williams and Zander Williams; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service was held May 8 from Emmanuel Baptist Church.
