James Harold “Lucky” Spires

Hinesville—James Harold “Lucky” Spires, 56, died April 22, 2018, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A lifelong resident of Hinesville, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Ludowici and Bradwell Institute Class of 1980.  He was very active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed the Pinewood Derby.

If you could combine love, sunshine and the best storyteller in the world, that would be Lucky. He could tell a story better than anyone except his granddaddy, James. He was a hard worker who loved his job and was always ready for a quick laugh and a poke in the side to get you screaming. Lucky was a jack of all trades, could operate any piece of equipment, and could draw anything he could see. He was a good friend, a loving husband and father, and the best son and brother, according to  his family, who called him a wonderful Christian man who knew no boundaries.

He is survived by his wife, Dara Hailey Spires; parents, Harold and Sandra Spires; a sister and brother-in-law, Lori Spires and Frank Versele; children, Samantha Spires Dover (Kelby), Cory Thomas Spires, Valerye Ralph and Chad Ralph; a special niece, Olivia Versele; an aunt and uncle, Rhonda and Danny Brant; special cousins, Jamie Brant Lane (Brooks), Jolie Brant Jenkins (Daniel), Emerson, Lolly, Proper and Blair; a mother-in-law, Joy Sapp; sisters-in-law, Robin Hailey, Tisha Wright, Carson Wright, Keely Ragin and Brandie Smith; and numerous cousins and other family members.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Midway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hank Perry and the Rev. Eric Rentz officiating.  Mr. Spires will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospitals (www.stjude.org), 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
