Dorothy “Dot” Harris Westberry

Dorothy “Dot” Harris Westberry, 77, died peacefully March 11, 2019, at home surrounded by her family.

A native of Appling County, she was born on July 29, 1941, to the late James Julian and Effie Sikes Harris. She was a member of Faith Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts, collecting butterflies, and arranging flowers. Her favorite pastime of all was spending time with her beloved family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene Sisco;  two brothers, Robert Harris and Phillip Wayne Harris; and three sisters, Mary Ruth Ivey, Leccy Kaye Nails and Betty Jean Maske.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Peggy and Elton Lynn, Tony and Joan Westberry, Andy and Tammy Westberry and Maxine Baker, all of Jesup;  brothers and sisters and their spouses, Patricia Ann and Bennie Darsey of Jesup, William David and Carolyn Harris of Screven and Terry Dale and Sandra Harris of Jesup; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Howard & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. James Carter officiating.

Interment will follow in Ritch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Robbie Sapp, Matt Fail, Brian Belcher, Jim Smith, Eddie Wheatley, Jay Harris, Mike Dixon and Corey Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.

Vicki Lewis Phillips

Jesup--Vicki Lewis Phillips, 73, of Jesup died March 11, 2019.

The Jeff Davis County native had lived in Wayne County most of her life. She was a member of O’Quinn Baptist Church and a retired teacher with the Wayne County school system.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Morris Phillips, and parents, Leland and Marscina Lewis.

Survivors include two daughters, Leaisha Phillips of Jesup and Laura (Tim) Sloan of Jesup; four grandchildren, Matthew Phillips, Dylan, Evan and Jarrett Sloan; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Greenlee officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be family members.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Meredith Jerome  “Doc” Lamb

Baxley--Meredith Jerome “Doc” Lamb, 88, of Baxley died March 9, 2019, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.

He was born April 30, 1930, in Appling County to the late Wally Jasper Lamb and the late Ella Maude Sellers Lamb. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired storeroom supervisor with Rayonier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Lamb, Curtis Lamb and Mack Lamb, and his sisters, Lula Saseen, Aletha Buhler and Mae Orr.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and K.C. Ortiz of Syracuse, Nebraska; granddaughters, Mia and Abby Ortiz of Syracuse; and a brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and Jeanine Lamb of Savannah.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services at Swain Funeral Home.

Swain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
