Vernon M. Jones Sr.

Jesup—Vernon M. Jones Sr., 67, of Jesup died Feb. 2, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.

He was known as “Mr. Vern.” The Miami, Florida, native graduated from South Broward High School in 1969 and earned two degrees from Miami Dade College North Campus in criminal justice and business administration. He retired from BellSouth/AT&T after 28 years of service. He loved working on old cars, karate and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Valerie Jones; a son, Vernon Jones Jr.; and a daughter, Vonnetta. His surviving Jesup relatives include Robert McKenzie and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be in Miami, Florida.

Thomas O. Mager

Jesup—Thomas O. Mager, 89, of Jesup and formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died Feb. 4, 2019.

The Pennsylvania native was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a retired employee with General Electric Company and was an avid golfer and bridge player with Pine Forest Country Club friends. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Lou Mager of Jesup; daughters and sons-in-law, Denise (Dr. Gregory) Bittner of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, Marcy (David) Rosswog of Valencia, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Sandra Mager (Andrew Wetherington) of Jesup; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn Bloom, Brian Rosswog, Tara Lucki, Robyn Turner, Dr. Michael Bitt-ner, and Drew and Dylan Wetherington; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Keith O’Neill officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA  31545.

Interment and funeral service will follow in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania.

Iris Lee “Buck” Bishop

Jesup—Iris Lee “Buck” Bishop, 85, of Jesup died Feb. 7, 2019 at his residence.

He was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church and a retiree of Rayonier. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and all of his friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Daisy Westberry Bishop of Jesup; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Jada Bishop of Jesup; a grandson, Ashton Tyre of Jesup; and many extended relatives.

Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Horne and the Rev. Calvin Anderson officiating.  Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Clem Collins, Ricky Jones, Al Copeland, Alvin Westberry, Jay Leggett and Wayne Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Pye, Warren Beverly and George Roberson.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to New Hope Freewill Baptist Cemetery fund, 1240 New Hope Hope Road, Jesup, GA 31545.
