Elton G. Dent

Odum—Elton G. Dent, 92, of Odum died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Jan.  17, 2019.

The Wayne County native was a deacon emeritus and served many capacities in Altamaha Baptist Church. He was a retired civil service employee and U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Purple Heart recipient.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Eula Durden Dent; sisters, Ouida Dent, Leila Martin and Alice Raggett; and brothers, Eschol, Homer, Herbert, Theron and Junie Dent.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Delia Tillman Dent of Odum; a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda (Allen) Hayes of Jesup; sons and daughters-in-law, Elmer (Mary Anne) Dent of Jesup, Craig (Sharon) Dent of Clermont, Florida, and Ricky (Amy) Dent of Odum; sisters, Nellie (Howard) Newberry of Whigham and Annette (Allen) Weldon of Tallahassee, Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lavern (Martha) Dent, Tommie (Ann) Dent, Wyman (Mildred) Dent and Donald (Virginia) Dent of Jesup; sisters-in-law, Lavonne Dent and Carolyn Dent of Odum and Faye Dent of Jesup; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Jan. 20 at Altamaha Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Lee and the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. Interment was in Altamaha Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Active pallbearers were his grandsons.

Linda Hughes Hardin

Jesup—Linda Hughes Hardin, 75, of Jesup died Jan. 18, 2019, at her residence and after a short illness. Memorial services will be held by the family.

Joseph Paul Hawkins Sr.

Jesup—Joseph Paul Hawkins Sr., 55, of Jesup died Jan. 18, 2019, after an extended illness.

Memorial services are being held by the family.

Olen James Houston

Screven--Olen James Houston, 66, of Screven died Jan. 19, 2019, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home Chapel.

 

 

 

Chase Alexander  Carroll

Jesup--Chase Alexander Carroll, 17, of Jesup died Jan. 20, 2019, in Tennille.

He was a native of Bibb County. He was an 11th grade student at Wayne County High School and a member of the cross country team. He was a member of Tennille Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Karen L. Welch of Jesup; his stepfather, Brian Welch of Jesup; a brother, Graham Welch of Jesup; grandmothers, Annie Laura Carroll of Ormand Beach, Florida, and Sandy McFarren of New York; grandparents, Richard  and Ann Welch of Sandersville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sisters Baptist Church in Sandersville with burial in White Oak Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today (Wednesday).

The Rev. Tony Whitley and the Rev. Mike Dorough will officiate. Pallbearers will be the cross country team of Wayne County High School.

The family suggest donations be made to Tennille Baptist Church, P.O. Box 402, Tennille, GA 31089.
