Bishop Jack Dorminey Jr.
Jesup—Bishop Jack Dorminey Jr., 81, of Jesup died Thursday, December 14, 2017, in the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
The Ben Hill County native was a 1954 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and a U.S. Army veteran and had lived in Wayne County the past three years.
He was a Church of God bishop ministering in a number of south Georgia Church of God churches. Sports were a great interest to him, including football, baseball and especially golf.
He was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his daughter, Fern Faulk Dorminey; three sisters, Anna Lessie Bowen, Mildred Pierce and Francis Cox; and five brothers, Ed, George, Luke, Bill and Gene Dorminey.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, the Rev. Ellen Denison Dorminey of Jesup; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and the Rev. Ricky Stringer of Screven; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchel and Laura Denison and the Rev. Matt and Stacey Denison, all of Jesup; several grandchildren and their spouses, including Mandy Stringer and the Rev. Craig Hardee of Statesboro; several great-grandchildren, including Kayleigh and Reese Hardee; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Beverly Dorminey of Kilgore, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Stringer, the Rev. Matt Denison, and the Rev. Van McCall officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald.
Active pallbearers will be Craig Hardee, Mike Faulk, Jacob Denison, B.J. Denison, Mitchell Denison and Charlie Hinson. Honorary pallbearers will be the drivers of NeSmith Chevrolet of Jesup.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Retired Ministers Fund, South Georgia Church of God State Office, P.O. Box 1370, Tifton, GA 31793. Please note on check “Retired Ministers Fund in memory of Jack Dorminey Jr.”
