Martha Jane Todd Seeker
Screven—Martha Jane Todd Seeker, 80, of Screven died Nov. 4, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 14, 1937, in Hinesville and was the daughter of Lloyd Earl Todd and Polly Gentry Todd. She married her husband of 64 years, James Lewis Seeker Jr., on June 15, 1953, in Folkston.
Her 80 years of life yielded incredible adventures as a professional singer, world traveler, published writer and successful business-woman, and she reared six children with the challenges of being a Navy wife.
She advocated and actively fought for the rights of the unborn and “in her great wisdom counseled and helped many on a vast array of life’s challenges,” her family said. She taught adult classes at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Her love of the Catholic Church was her strength, her family said, and above all, her intense devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary carried her through many dark hours. It was rare to see her without her rosary in her hands or pockets.
She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Jack Radford Todd and Kip Anthony Todd; and four great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, James Lewis Seeker Jr. of Screven; three daughters and a son-in-law, Marla June and Timothy Aschauer of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Marjorie Joy Seeker of Screven, and Lillian Gayle Whitfield of Screven; three sons and a daughter-in-law, James David Seeker of Dublin, Timothy Lee Seeker of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Frederick Thomas and Betsey Seeker of Pensacola, Florida; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Leasure of Orange Park, Florida; and several nieces, nephews and countless cousins.
Funeral mass services were held Nov. 6 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Keith O’Neill officiating. Interment was in Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Joseph Seeker, David Seeker Jr., Joseph Connor, Timothy Seeker, David Seeker and Frederick Thomas Seeker.
At the deceased’s request, memorial contributions should be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1048 E. Cherry Street, Jesup, GA 31546. Her recorded songs can be heard on reverbnation.com/Martha seeker.
