Helen Hensley Norwood

Jesup—Helen Hensley Norwood, 79, died Nov. 2, 2018, after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 15, 1939, in Mars Hill, North Carolina, to the late Jimmy and Berlia Ray Hensley. She grew up in Madison County with her four siblings and graduated from Mars Hill High School.

She moved in 1966 to Jesup, where she and her husband, Bill, owned and operated Ben Franklin for many years.  She was known far and wide for her cooking and baking. She was also a talented singer, once performing with her family on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Bill Norwood III.

Survivors include two children, William Gary (Kim) Norwood of Cartersville and Cindy Norwood Hart of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Mallory (Jacob) Wheeler of Swainsboro, Tyler (Jessie) Avera of Baxley, Ali (Corey) Evans of Cartersville and Ross Norwood of Cartersville; and a brother, Charles Ernest Hensley, and a sister, Gladys English, both of Mars Hill.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Epworth First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Duane Harper and Pastor Garth Duke-Barton officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tyler Avera, Ross Norwood, Jacob Wheeler, Corey Evans, Brian Thomas, and Will Smith.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth First United Methodist Church, 675 S. 3rd St., Jesup, GA 31545.

“Morris” Wesley Mansfield

Odum—“Morris” Wesley Mansfield, 70, of Odum, died Nov. 3, 2018.

He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and a retired employee with RWP Cabinet Makers.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Hazel Buren Thornton Mansfield; a sister, Juanita Smith; a grandson, Shadeau Lukacs; and a great-grandson, Mikell Luc Downs.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hopkins Mansfield of Odum; daughters, Cassandra Lavelle, Barbara Mansfield, Katrina Strickland and Susan Ratliff; a sister, Glenda Roberson; and brothers, Raymond, Wayne, Pierce, Harvey, Dillard and Leo Mansfield.

Funeral service were held Nov. 6 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Dennie Waters officiating.

Interment followed in Big Creek Cemetery.

Joyce G. Aspinwall

Screven--Joyce G. Aspinwall, 85, died Nov. 4, 2018, at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

She was born on June 30, 1933, in Pierce County to the late Owen and Janie Arnette Johnson. She was a homemaker and owner of Joyce’s Florist for more than 35 years. She truly loved flowers and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Screven and a former member of the Screven Garden Club.

In addition to her parents, her husband of 61 years, Clyde H. Aspinwall, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Andy and Nancy Aspinwall of Patterson and Randy Aspinwall of Screven; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Christopher Brown of Jesup; one brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Cheryl Johnson of Patterson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and Daniel Thomas of Patterson and Betty Roberson of Patterson; grandchildren, Drew (Nikki) Aspinwall of Patterson, Jared (Nicole) Boatright of Screven, Ethan (Katie) Boatright of Patterson and Joseph Brown of Jesup; great-grandchildren, Kallan and Beau Aspinwall, Morgan and Briley Boatright and Adalyn Kate Boatright; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended- family members.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Dr. Brad Ellington, the Rev. Ron Wilcox and Durwood Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Screven City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.
