George William “Buddy” McReady

Screven--George William “Buddy” McReady, 78, of Screven died surrounded by his loving family Nov. 20, 2018.

He spent most of his life in Screven and was a retired farmer and 19-year employee with Rayonier. He especially enjoyed working with old cars, watching Westerns and spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Annie Evors McReady; brothers, Benny and Wayne McReady; and a sister, Linda Gail Hughes.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nell Oliver McReady; daughters, Darlene Tillman of Blackshear and Donna Kay (Stacey) Morgan of Jacksonville, Florida; sons, Donald McReady of Savannah and Mackey (Tonya) McReady of Screven; sisters, Shirley (Robert) Sheffield and Genell Roberson of Screven; brothers, Lamar (Linda) McReady of Jesup and Herman (Thelma) McReady of Screven; grandchildren, Jay and Luke McReady, Denton Denison, Lacie Thomas and Candis Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Jonah and Kora McReady, Alivia and Blaiden Thomas, Dawson Denison, Khloe Brock and Paislee Brainbridge.

Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Mullis and the Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating.  Graveside services followed with nephew, Norman Franklin officiating.  Interment was in Thompson Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jay, Luke and Kevin McReady, Denton Denison, Lacie Thomas and Ronnie Mullis. Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Georgia Hospice Care and Harborview Nursing Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Thompson Cemetery Fund, 520 Cameron Road, Jesup, GA 31545.

Wanda Hall Fulton

Jesup—Wanda Hall Fulton, 59, of Jesup died Nov. 21, 2018, in Candler Hospital after an extended illness.

The Milledge-ville native lived in Wayne County most of her life and was Baptist. She enjoyed working with CVS for 11 years and being a homemaker with her family.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Fulton.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Ricky E. Fulton of Jesup; son, Ray Hall of Jesup; grandson, Anthony Ricky Fulton; great-granddaughter, Katie Fulton; and brother, Cecil Hall of Milledgeville.

Memorial services will be held by the family.

Paula Maddock Addotta

Jesup—Paula Maddock Addotta, 74, of Jesup died Nov.20, 2018.

The New York native lived in Wayne County the past nine years and attended Calvary Baptist Church.  She loved to garden and was an avid reader. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Joe Addotta of Jesup; sons, Salvatore Addotta of Waco, Texas, Joseph Addotta Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Paul John (Nancy Lynne) Addotta of Margate, Florida; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Kate Maddock, Melody Maddock and Jolene Lesniewski; a brother, William Maddock; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held in the near future at Calvary Baptist Church.

Carl Edward “Eddie” Beverly

Jesup—Carl Edward “Eddie” Beverly, 53, of Jesup died Nov. 24, 2018.

He was an avid University of Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves fan.

Survivors include his father, Charles (Janet) Beverly of Jesup; two sisters, Linda (George) Wilson of Darien, Charlene (Tommy) Blount of Brunswick; and two brothers, Donnie Phillips of Brunswick and Ronnie (Saundra) Phillips of Brunswick.

Graveside funeral services were held Nov. 27 at Red Hill Cemetery.

Kathryn Wasdin Moseley

Screven—Kathryn Wasdin Moseley, 85, of Screven died Nov. 25, 2018.

The Wayne County native was a member of Screven First Baptist Church and a retired bus driver, having worked 37 years for with the Wayne County Board of Education. The avid Atlanta Braves fan loved to attend their games and had lots of memorabilia.  She liked to saltwater fish also.

She was predeceased by her husband, Conrad E. Moseley; a son, Randy Darrell Moseley; and three granddaughters, Mandi, Katrina and Gabriel.

Survivors include two sons, Hoyt (Kay) Moseley of Screven and Scott (Annette) Moseley of Odum; three daughters, Jackie Moseley, Elaine Moseley, and Julie (Gene) Roberson, all of Screven; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Jean Worthington of Reidsville; brothers, Steve (Una) Wasdin of Richmond Hill and Jr. and (Edie) Wasdin of Augusta; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) 11 a.m. at Screven First Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Wilcox and Dr. Brad Ellington officiating. Interment will follow in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her family. Honorary pallbearers will be the retired Wayne County bus drivers and the Ready Sunday School Class members of Screven First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Zane Earl Poppell

Jesup--Zane Earl Poppell, 57, of Jesup died Nov. 22, 2018, of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held Nov. 25 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Varney Aspinwall officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Luther F. Harter

Jesup--Luther F. Harter, 60, died Nov. 20, 2018.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, he was born June 29, 1958, to the late Thomas and Mazell Landon Harter.  He was a 1976 graduate of Wayne County High School and worked for Wayne State Correctional Institution for many years before taking a position with FCI- Jesup when it opened in Jesup.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, a passion which he proudly handed down to his three sons. 

In addition to his parents, his brother, Danny Harter, and his beloved black lab, Lucky, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Daniel Harter; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Justin Daniel Harter, Brennan Thomas and Shelli Harter, and Benjamin Pearce Harter, all of Odum;  two grandchildren, Kye Daniel Harter and Hoke Douglas Harter; a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Mike Bacon of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Private graveside services will be held in Odum City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alfred Holland, Heith Wynn, Billy Murtha, Jamie Hodge, Hughie Sellers and Mickey Harter.

Ruth Landon Griffis

Jesup--Ruth Landon Griffis, 92, died Nov. 26, 2018, at Harborview Health System under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, she was born on July 10, 1926, to the late Roscoe and Sussie Landon. She was co-owner of Griffis Grocery for many years and a member of Jesup Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Griffis; a son, Jimmy Griffis; a sister, Earline Blackmon; a son-in-law, Harrison Dowless; and a grandson, John David Ginn III.

Survivors include her two daughters and a son-in-law, Helen Dowless of Brunswick and Janice and John Ginn of Jesup; grandchildren, Tina Stubbs of Brunswick, Teresa Dowless of Brunswick and Jason Ginn of Jesup; great-grandchildren, Jadalynn Ginn and Jonathan Ginn, both of Jesup; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Willene Adams of Jesup and Aline and Preston Gray of Jesup;a sister-in-law, Juanita (Warren) Reddish of Jesup; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended-family members.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Elder Keith Tillman and the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will be held privately at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Willie “Bishop” Gibson

Jesup--Willie “Bishop” Gibson, 91, of Jesup died Nov. 24, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness.

He leaves to cherish his memory five children, Terry (Gloria) Wilson of Tallahassee, Florida, Willie (Faye) Brooks of Brunswick, Freddie Brooks of Tennessee, Cynthia (Wallace) Tillman of Jesup and Linda Faye Gibson of Jesup; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Dec. 1 at Community Chapel Funeral Home of Jesup at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 30.
